So, I'm renting a server from Vilayer. 40 slot.

I really just want to protect it, but I am completely blind and in the dark. I have no idea what to do. I've never done anything like this. I mean right now, I don't know if it's unsecured or anything like that.

Can anyone be so kind as to help me? maybe just point me in the right direction? I've been searching around for about an hour but I can't find anything, especially on the vilayer site.

I don't know Vilayer, but admin controls are normal done through the control panel. Did you not a get a login when you signed up?

I got a login to vilayer. Is that where it's done and not in the game client?

I've figured out how to change the MOTD and the server time. But that's it. And that was only something that was already pretty much setup.

Anyone else? is everything controlled from the vilayer website? or is there commands you can use in game

I mainly really only want to know how to type so all players can see it in case I have to restart the server, I just want to warn them

and also kick players, there was a guy last night glitching around in my server and I didn't know how to kick

Set an admin password in your server.cfg file. When you connect to your server (in lobby) click on Server Control. Type in your admin password (you will be logged in as admin).

You can now:

  • Chat to your server globally [Hit > until global appears, hit / to bring up the input box. Note: players cannot respond to you]
  • Kick/Mute players [Directly from lobby, or hit 'M' for map, select player list and you can highlight the player you want to kick/mute]
  • Shutdown/restart your server [Directly from lobby, or hit 'M' for map, select server control]

There's also a rcon tool you can get for ARMA II (works for Dayz). Put in your server details and you can manage a lot from there as well, including server bans.
