Make night bearable (flashlights)

Recommended Posts

The major issue with night is that it is not only difficult to see but using tools that make seeing easier make you the biggest target on the map. (Without using gamma and brightness changes).

I don't know how many times I have seen people from MILES away running with a flashlight on and seeing that thing just bob up and down and back and forth...dead give away. No pun intended.

I propose 2 things.

1. When running, make the right arm holding the flashlight stay still up by your characters head. This is only how a normal person would run with a flashlight. This means you still can't have a weapon out. This still poses a slight problem in that shooting a zombie at night can be a real pain in the ass. I guess this is what flares and chem lights are for.

2. Headlamps. A light that sits on your forehead or shoulder to illuminate the path directly ahead of you allowing you to use your gun and have a light on at the same time.

In both cases you are still a big target but at the very least you can move easier and not have to worry about lights flashing all over the place giving away your location unless you turn your head or move in circles a lot.

Also...make zombies see flashlights and come running at you. I also don't understand why we are quieter at night. Vision reduction for the zombies I get...quieter? Doesn't make sense.

have you ever tried holding a BLUE chemlight in your hand... not sure if you know of this but you CAN pick them up after you throw them...

I personally like running around in Cherno/Elektra with a road flare in my hand

Well, why do you use it? The problem is that it is really too dark a night, so a full moonlit night would help. For some reason only the smallest moon phase available is used in Arma Dayz. I remember it was bright enough in Operation Arrowhead to run around without a light or NV. Quite beautiful too when you actually see something.

It is so dark - I admit I occasionally turn gamma up at night. Which is another thing that bothers me quite a bit, but I see no way around it. I only use my flashlight for split-seconds to check inside buildings, after I'm sure nobody else is in it. I even have a military flashlight (red spectrum), but I know it makes me a living target. Easy fix - switch night settings to full moon on recruit and regular server. Leave it like it is on the Veteran and other servers.

P.S.: Sandwich - that is just suicidal! I do use chemlights every once in a while and road flares when I'm out of cities and in the thick.

I know you can pick up flares and chems but a chem doesn't illuminate enough directly in front of you so much as a small area around you. Flares are like a huge, "please shoot me" sign.

Not to mention the way your character holds a flashlight is retarded...it's like they are afraid to drop it or something. Both hands pointed out directly in front of you? Who does that?

Mr. OP:

Or you could try moving tactically.. As in you use flashlight for few seconds to gather your bearings, finding out where you will be going, and afterwards you move in that direction with flashlight off for few seconds, stopping again do same thing.

Idea is very simple - your flashlight is in your hand, and not on your head. Both cases suggested by OP are referring to head mounted flashlights. If the item is in your hand, you will be swinging it up and down as you run

if you really really need to travel at night

just use the GPS...... shift and click is your friend

and the flashlight only shines infront of you if you set your move speed to walking not running

Blue is the smallest illumination, then red, then green (can be seen from 30/50/70m out respectively)

havent died yet while holding a flare its why i continue to do so

You must've been playing on some very low pop servers, with lots of very nice people. Last time i was on a night time servers, and saw anyone with flashlights or flares in hand, they were dead way before they ever approached the cities :( (and not by my hand either)

i usually run in a circle by the statues of the 3 guys infront of the clock tower in Cherno firing my 1911 into the sky while the road flare is violently burning in my hand

Most of the posters in this thread have either failed to read my whole post or failed to get the point entirely.

No normal human being runs with a flashlight in hand like the characters do in game. You can run with a flashlight pointed out in front of you without waving it around like an idiot.

Just because an alternate method already exists in the game does not mean corrections don't need to be or can't be made to make the game more realistic and better overall.

Oh, we did read, it just doesn't make sense. Who would run with a flashlight in their hand in RL? When you are running turn off the flashlight. When you have to use it, flash it for a second and not more. Sometimes those moments can be really suspenseful, so I guess it has its thrills. If you run with a flashlight on that is just plain stupid, since you can turn it off.

The only thing I find complainworthy is that you cannot wield a handgun + flashlight at the same time.

Have you ever been in the military? Worked for a forest service, fire or police department? Guess what? They all train you on how to hold, use and even run with a flashlight. How the characters do it in game is not it.
