GPS + Batteries for electronics

Recommended Posts

I have 2 suggestions:

a) i've noticed that as long as you have a map most servers let you set waypoints on the map (left shift+left click) that will then show up on the HUD as a V with the distance to the waypoint.

This doesn't quite seem in the spirit of DayZ since way points can essentially be used as a rangefinder, GPS, and compass without requiring any of these items but this is exactly what a GPS unit allows you to do.

My suggestion is then to disable waypoints on all servers but allow their placement once a player acquires a GPS unit (if that's possible withing the ARMA 2 engine). This would bring the utility of the GPS on par with its rarity.

B) Make electronics (GPS, rangefinder, NVG) consume batteries when in use. Batteries should be interchangable, of medium rarity (~STANAG MAG), and power GPS for 2h and NVG/rangefinder for 1h. Essentially it would work like an ammo clip that goes down with time.

If I recall the laser designator in ARMA 2 already required batteries.

Thanks for making such a great mod

Go to expert (not veteran) servers to not be able to use that map waypoint thing.

Batteries though, I'm ok with.

Deuzerre,

I mostly play on a server where this is disabled.

My main point was to use this ARMA 2 feature in DayZ as part of the GPS.

Thanx Gustav,

it's great to get that sort of input. Based on that maybe batteries should be rarer then.

I'm sure you agree that DayZ, just like a symphony, must contain everything.
