With all your scavenging you have likely found enough tools to go hunt your own food. You need between the two of you, 1 Hunting Knife, 1 Hatchet, 1 Box of Matches 1) Freshly Killed Animal. (You can use the hatchet to kill it, knife to gut it, hatchet to go get firefood, matches to start fire, gutted meat to cook with.)

I have found in the past some spawns produce nothing and I had to end up giving up and coming back later but mostly now if you go into a shop or other building you should find some food. My first task as a fresh spawn is weapon and then matches and bigger pack. Then work onto knife / hatchet so I can go into the wilderness and plan what to do next.
