As I was reading I deemed your action a little underhanded, but here is an interesting point in this story many seem to be overlooking. The guy with the shot gun had ammo left but was clearly being deceptive about the fact. For all you know he could have just been itching for the moment when he could have dumped that slug into the back of your skull for a free AKM. But that is how this game works, it could have easily been you getting killed for giving them salvation. Does it make you a bad person, well no this is a game where the strong survive and they were at your mercy. You say you feel bad for the action as the topic says so somewhere in the back of your mind if felt wrong to pull that trigger when you did. Ultimately you had to make a the call at that moment when you asked them if they were out of ammo, I think you made the right choice.

My first ever time playing DayZ this happened to me, Logged in, some guy helped me through Elecktro to find some stuff, got me an AKM with 1 mag, takes me hospital to help me find more loot, I'm looking through some loot and he laughs through Direct Chat, says something I didn't understand and shot me.

Made me laugh as I knew I was dumb for trusting someone after watching so many videos of the game.

Also you are not a dick, you tried helping them, got paranoid and saved yourself, I have done similar things in DayZ.

Having the right and exercising that right are two very different things my friend. Killing people is easy, so is pretty much every thing morally wrong (it's just a game, so I wouldn't take it quite that far :P).

What I'm saying is, if you really did feel bad about it, then don't do it. There's *far* greater challenge and -- in my opinion -- far better reward in the business of being a friendly player than just another back stabber/murderer/kill on sight out of defense player. It's definitely against the flow, it's not what everyone else is doing, and it is a up hill battle... but if that appeals to you, click the link in my Sig and check it out.

Despite the mechanics of the game, what you may gain or lose from any interaction with another player, you're still making a moral choice, regardless of the virtual medium, when engaging others. Personally, I find the emergent stories created through the sessions I play where I help and protect to be more rewarding.
