Damage Nerf on Firearms

Recommended Posts

As i'm sure everyone has noticed by now, there are many weapons that have had their damage severely reduced due to the ARMA update.

Are there any plans by the DayZ team to do something about the damage of the weapons that got nerfed into the ground?

Pistols are borderline useless, and some of the other pistol caliber weapons are as well. In fact, there is almost no reason to have a 1911/Revolver anymore, because you might as well keep something with a higher capacity magazine such as the G17 and aim for headshots.

We need some of these damage values, especially on the pistols and submachine guns, reverted or at least tweaked a little bit to what they originally were.

SooooO TRUE, revolver and m1911 suck now taking 5 shots to kill zombies.. unless ya use it right and shoot them in the head ;) but def sucks getting nerf'd :((

i agree with Fraggle, the game was tremendously easy, the gun nerf was definately needed. At least now Zeds prove to be a challenge in numbers, ammo is more important AND you have to think about firing your gun in an open space with zeds around and of course, take precise aiming.

I honestly wouldn't have such a problem with the damage reductions if zombies could path a little bit better. The way they are now is a bit unpredictable (in a glitchy/unrealistic way). One second you have your iron sights drawn right on their head, the next they are on your side/ass beating you up.

The only reliable way to get headshots is inside buildings when they slow down a bit.

It's good since you can still break legs, make somebody bleed or even kill with a headshot. Zombies should be something to fear, not something that's just annoying. This was a step in the right direction.

You're talking about ArmA 2 AI, designed for long to mid distance firefights and infantry combat, I thank rocket and realize that it is a miracle that they work at all. o7

Zombies aren't the only thing you have to fight though. I haven't experienced fighting against other survivors with any of the weapons that had their damage reduced, but i think this also impacts the game negatively.

It shouldn't take more than one magazine from a Makarov (now 889 damage) to kill another player, even if you don't headshot with it.

True, while I really like the Weapon Nerf in general it came at an unfortunate time (that is, Zeds still having buggy pathfinding/animations).

I'm alright with the nerf it won't kill me, the only thing that bugs me a ton is that they nerfed the enfield. They gave it half the damage, and half the noise. :(

Yea, that Enfield took a huge hit. I thought it was balanced because you got huge damage at the cost of alerting everything in the area. Ol'well i guess.

This. Also it's a nice pvp change. Before if someone was camping and they shot you chances were they killed you due to bleeding/broken bones/getting knocked out if not just out right dying. Now you have a chance to put up a fight. Just because someone gets a jump on you doesn't mean they should always out right kill you. Also with the zombie changes it makes firing a weapon to clear out zombies a much harder choice over just sneaking past them.

Yes, yes it should. Rifles make big holes in people, this ought to be reflected in the game. Being able to survive more than a full magazine of .45 rounds is incredibly gamey.

Not that there is anything wrong with arcadey shooters, it's just that there are so many of them already. Let's keep DayZ from going down that route, shall we?

People camping generally use scoped rifles, like the M14, DMR and M24. They camp and kill anyone they see. These weapons did, and still do, 8k damage.

Before, when you spawned and grabbed a gun, almost any weapon was fine, barring 9mm sidearms and submachine guns. Now? 5.45 AKs are nerfed, shotguns are nerfed, pistols of all kinds are nerfed as well as the Lee Enfield. 9mm firearms are nearly USELESS outside of spammed close-range fire. AKMs and M16/M4 variants are all that remain, and they aren't normal fresh spawn weapons, though the AKM isn't all that rare. Even the LEE does nearly 2k LESS damage than 7.62x51 NATO (.308) rifles, with all the weaknesses it had before, stopping at the sound range.

So what the hell are you going on about? Doesn't mean they can kill you outright? They do the SAME damage and you do LESS. You have LESS of a chance to kill them, even if you get the first 5 rounds off! Check out the math, the damn 9mm takes 14 rounds (14!!) to kill a player. In that time, 2 from any .308 rifle will put you down, and that's 16k combined damage.

Yeah, I was quite surprised the other day when I died, lost all my high end gear and just found a makarov... oh well I though, no biggie... then I got the drop on someone in Cherno supermarket, emptied the whole mag into them, they just turned around, laughed and blew me away with an AK. Yes I know I should have gone for a headshot, but my aim was twitching all over the place like a crack addict because I needed painkillers, so I (thought) I played it safe by sticking 7 rounds into them.

I mean what the actual fuck? You tell me what person could survive being shot at near point blank range with a whole mag of makarov ammo. Also the M9SD is now fucking useless, takes about 5-10 shots to stop a zombie, getting headshots with it is impossible unless youre inside because the iron sights are shiiiiiiiiiiiite.

Yep, the only way you can really do any decent damage with a Makarov is with headshots. In the condition you were in, you had no chance.

It's hard enough to headshot with those Maks, shaking amplifies that dificulty quite a bit.
