Utter Noob Questions

First of all, as the title suggests - I'm an utter noob at this game. It looks interesting and I want to enjoy it, so I thought i'd best ask a couple of questions before i throw something at the screen.

Primarily it seems that I don't have any indicators when approaching things like totalled cars and building doors. Is this normal first of all? If so then my question is, what am I meant to be looking for in terms of looting and finding stuff to survive with, and secondly, if it's not normal to not get any action indicators, how can I fix that?

Some houses can't be opened, you can see a open house when your able to look through the windows.

Only some cars are fixable, broken down ones that are exploded, do not have a action with them ^^

Another question, do you have to find a map to be able to view it?

Yes, maps can be found in Supermarkets mostly, there is a supermarket in the two main cities on the coast.

You could of course study a map online such as http://dayzdb.com/map if you want to do something like that.

Use that map site because you will begin to learn all the types of buildings that are able to be entered and you will see which types of loot you actually want.
