Trouble configuring DayZ server

Last night my friend setup a DayZ server via a provider known as HostAltitude at http://www.dayzhosting.com/. We're wondering if anybody can give us advice on how to configure the server for private access only.

It seems that the provider has given us limited control on what we're allowed to do. Is anybody else using this provider?

The DayZ rules (and I assume Host Altitude rules as well) clearly state that private DayZ servers aren't allowed.

BEWARE - The same restrictions apply to Non-Dev run servers!

- IT MAY NEVER BE PASSWORDED

- NO OTHER KEYS OR MODS. NONE. PERIOD.

- NO KICKING TO MAKE ROOM FOR 'FRIENDS' OR CLANMATES

- NO LOCKING THE SERVER

- NO EDITING DAYZ/MISSION FILES

- IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO UPDATE YOUR SERVER TO THE LATEST VERSION OF DAYZ

-BATTLEYE MUST BE ENABLED

- Minimum slot count of 40 (30 for countries where bandwidth is expensive i.e. developing countries)

- Their are only two reasons why you, as a server owner, should ban a player on your server. Those two reasons are: Malicious talk, and racism. You may not ban a user for stealing your loot, killing you, spying on you, etc.

- You may only kick for disruptive behavior (such as continued VOIP over side channel). But you may not kick due to race or language or because the person does something you do not like.

- Kicking for extremely excessive ping or desync is permitted, but if abused is grounds for blacklisting

If we arn't allowed to password protect it, then why do i see a ton of private servers in the hive?

It's possible, but obviously it's looked down upon. Additionally, it's going to be practically impossible to make it private if you're on a slotted server. DayZ forced file restrictions a while back. You'd be better off buying a dedicated server if you really wanted to, and even then you won't find out how to host a private server here.

Why would I want to buy a server slot, only to be able to do sweet FA with it?

I get the impression that the deves are proper up their own arses.

If you're connecting to the central hive, you're potentially affecting all servers on the hive.

Therefore, you have to follow the rules of the hive.

I cant even log into my own server. i set it up last night and 32 people are currently enjoying theirselvs at my expense. All i get is the infamous "loading" screen.

On top of that I get limited controls to server functions.

I know why the mods want this to be (to stop server hopping etc) but I only bought this server to play with 5-6 other people I know.

To do so through this community, you cannot. All servers are connected to the hive.

As for the "Loading Screen" issues. Don't minimize when you're connecting to the server. That can cause you to get stuck at the loading screen.

If you're playing to only play with 5-6 people you know, then you're missing the point of the game. One of the biggest and most exciting portions of the game is when you run across another survivor. Is he friendly? Will he shoot you in the back? Did he even see me?

Playing against just Zeds is a lame game. Just run into a building and shoot the zombie train in the face (because they walk when they enter a building).

I know its a big side of the game and I understand that. However surely its up to me how I play the game?

I can see from the long list of threads related to this topic of discussion that its pretty much set in stone through the deomcracy that is Dayz.

I enjoy playing it normally but sometimes its good to play with a few mates and no one else.

Assuming its not "legal" to discuss where I could go to get a locked server away from this hive community?
