Non-Steam...Two Unique Characters...One PC ...How to?

I apologize if this has already been addressed elsewhere.

I have searched and searched the internet/various forums for information regarding installing a second unique account without using Steam. We've already tried on one computer to do a new Steam install with an existing Amazon purchase and it did not go well. I'm not completely computer illiterate, but messing with registry stuff kinda scares me.

On my PC I've been running the non-steam version since early May and just recently began using DayZ Commander. I'd like to buy a second installation from Amazon to run on this PC. Has anyone had experience doing it this way?

I'm thinking if I create all new folders in which to install the new games and download a new instance of DayZ within those folders I should be able to launch the new Arma2 OA/DayZ instances without getting the tangled up CD keys registry thing like we did with Steam. Then again my thinking may be completely wrong.

Before I drop another $30 I wanted to check and see if anyone has had any success with this.
