Running DayZ on RAMdrive?

Recommended Posts

I've been looking around for ways to increase my performance of the game. I read up about creating a RAMdrive to put files into the the game runs better.

I've already created a RAMdrive and moved files into it, but i'm having trouble connecting DayZ to it. Everytime i run the game it says that the game is missing miles etc for DayZ.

If anyone has successfully managed to get DayZ to work on a RAMdrive or knows how, i'd appreciate any help!

Thanks.

Tychi,

What is the exact error message you are getting?

Have you changed your registry keys to point to the new location? (Ramdrive) If not, this is probably your problem.

The following two keys should be updated for entries Main and Data, if present:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA]

"MAIN"="C:\\Program files\\Bohemia Interactive\\ArmA 2"

"DATA"="C:\\program files\\Bohemia Interactive\\ArmA 2\\Expansion"

Change them to whatever your Ram Drive and folder location are.

ie.

"MAIN"="R:\\Arma 2"

"DATA"="R:\\Arma 2\\Expansion"

Are you using symbolic links instead? Those can be tricky to set up correctly and you're better off copying the bigger files over and making file links rather than folder links since this game uses security software. (BattlEye)

I shall try out this method, thanks! I will let you know the outcome! :)

I have Looked for the Registry for ARMA 2 and i cannot see the Bohemia interactive folder :/

I also am using the STEAM version of the game and the folders i will be moving over are '@DayZ' and 'Common'

I set up a ramdrive for Dayz, but it actually made performance worse. Can't say I'm too bummed out about that since I would have to pay for that ramdrive utility eventually.

But let me know what it does for you.

@ Tychi:

I have it working on a RamDrive fine, I used DataRams RamDisk to create my RamDrive. Placed the relevant ARMA and DAYZ PBO files on my RamDrive and used Link Shell Extension to create symbolic links.

I launch DayZ via Six Launcher and can play without problem.

More detailed explanation of what I did: http://www.22ndsas.info/forums/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=9205

@JoostVoordeel:

Did you only place the DayZ PBO files on the RamDrive?
