PLAYE12 0 Posted May 23, 2012 I have installed both arma 2 (free) and arma 2 Op. Arrowhead, and ran both separately via steam. While both of those run fine individually, when I try to play Arma 2 CO, I can't get in. The command prompt pops up (and stays up), but then nothing happens. Both installs are clean (I reinstalled both of them, and haven't tampered with the files at all, so there is no dayz on it, or any other mod).Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I tried looking on the internet to solve the issue, but I haven't been able to come across anything exactly like my problem. Any suggestions are welcome - thanks! jonaswashe 7 Posted May 23, 2012 Edit your post title to "Using Arma 2 Free: Arma 2 CO won't start" and you will get an answer faster. There's very little support for using Arma 2 Free here. Most people will tell you to buy the main game as well, both to support the devs, and for the better textures. If I knew the answer I would tell you, but I ended up buying ArmA 2 for the reasons I just listed. Mojo (DayZ) 66 Posted May 23, 2012 I have installed both arma 2 (free) and arma 2 Op. Arrowhead' date=' and ran both separately via steam. Any suggestions are welcome - thanks![/quote']This problem is usually related to not running Steam as an administrator. Your command prompt is effectively refusing to execute elevated system commands because the program trying to do so doesn't have the permissions to do it.To see if this is your problem, set your Steam to run as administrator, then run the file again.Alternatively, if you're comfortable with the command prompt, you can set up symlinks and never have to worry about this problem again. To do this, click start, type cmd into the search bar, right click the cmd.exe program that shows up, and select Run As Administrator. In the command prompt, type the following:mklink /j "c:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\teamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\AddOns" "c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2\addons"This will create a junction that allows your system, and anything running on it, to effectively "see" ArmA 2's AddOns directory (where A2's assets are stored) as being in OA's base directory, which is the same as copying the file over, without having to worry about a) space concerns or b) copying any files that may be patched in the future. At this point, you have just "tricked" Operation Arrowhead into thinking you have a single-directory install. You may now start the executable from a shortcut with just -mod=@DayZAh. Just realized you were running ArmA 2 Free. As an alternative to Combined Ops Lite, if that's what you're going for (and for whatever reason the symlink doesn't work), you can also try to launch arma2oa.exe from a shortcut with the line "-mod=c:\your\path\to\arma 2 free;Expansion;@DayZ;" in the shortcut parameters. PLAYE12 0 Posted May 23, 2012 So I tried to get the command-prompt thing to work, unfortunately it says that the "System cannot find the path specified". I'm assuming the file location isn't right? I'm also a little confused on the last paragraph, Mojo - do you want me to enter in that command under the launch options in steam for Arma 2, or do you want me to enter it into the command prompt? Thanks again for your help.
tavi0x 0 Posted May 24, 2012 I had the exact same problem, what solved for me was using Arma Launcher(http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=8241) to run the game.
