Direct chat via Text is not Working?

It seems that trying to talk using text through direct chat is not working. I tried talking to a few guys at Balota airfield (The first who didn't shoot me), and tried to talk with them. I could not read their chat and I do not believe they could read mine. I was unarmed, and would basically have died if I ran, but they just sat there blankly, as if they were saying something to me. I ended up getting shot.

I'm not complaining in anyway, I couldn't care less about dying. It's part of the game. But has anyone else experienced this?

Were you on the right channel? Are you sure they were?

That's a valid point, but I've experienced many issues like this. The only time I've EVER talked to a player was via side chat, when it was around. I've never seen anyone speak in Direct, nor has anyone responded via direct to me.
