What do you consider the definition of a bandit?

I started killing on sight after quite a few run ins with people who aren't friendly. And now I kill when I get the opportunity, so I consider myself a bandit. But I got to thinking that there isn't a set definition of a bandit, so i want to see what others think (bandits such as myself in particular). in short give me your definition of a bandit.

A bandit is anyone that is taking things that don't belong to them, be it through murder or simple robbery. 99% of the time I will kill the people I come across unless they are part of my group. I have only let 1 person live since I started playing dayz, and that's b/c he didn't shoot when he had me in his sights. A bandit with honor, funny, but that's me.

A bandit is a thief. Whether or not someone dies in the robbery has no bearing beyond a numerical value within the game. If me/my group sees a person and that person doesn't see us but they are in our path, we use direct communication. They get 30 - 45 seconds to either respond back verbally or by typing. No response, they die. This is only in instances where they're clearly in our path, otherwise it's mostly an avoidance rule unless they clearly have loot we want. If they have loot we want, they get a chance to drop it. If not, they're shot.

I disagree with most of the posts on here. Lately EVERYONE basically shoots on sight. I don't think that makes them bandits. A bandit is someone who has an explicit goal to set out to a town to specifically kill other players for their loot.
