NukeLord 4 Posted August 1, 2012 Google a sweet map to alt-tab to.Learn to read a topographic map and orientate based on objects in your environment. Hills are the best indicator of position, valleys too.. Powerlines, surprisingly helpful as well. Also, the clouds only move East to West. (as far as I've noticed, I could be wrong). If you're logged in at night, DO NOT turn on a flashlight, or use a chem/road flare. This is an invitation for trouble from both Zed and Bandits. Use the Big Dipper (for us 'muricans, Ursa Major to the rest of the world) as your beacon to the North. Best advice I've seen:don't get attached to your equipment. theguy8882 9 Posted August 2, 2012 For best to worst you may want to say worst to best, Winchester and Lee Enfield are the best but crossbow is good too, I found it useful in cherno till attracted a horde... Then makarov saved me. You forgot to place Mak, M1911 and Revolver. Now even mak is better than revolver, used a rev mag on a zombie and even it didn't proned and mak just splashed it's brains on wall. Are you serious? the makarov is a piece of crap compared to the revolver and m1911
Westford 12 Posted August 2, 2012 Couple of Questions:1) Is it possable to enter buildings to loot, without the Zeds being alerted ? Or is the act of entering a building, enough, where the Zeds will come to investigate ? I ask this, because it seems that I rarely, if ever, am able to enter any building without Zeds shuffling over to the entrance. Or I just need to work on my stealth ?2) I am having some issues with running in crouch mode (X). Initally, I press W (and default is crouch running), and hold shift to crouch walk. After a few prone position commands, I lose the ability to crouch run again, regardless if I hold the shift-key or not. Double tap on the shift does not help. Not sure how to reset my crouch run, as it was when I 1st spawn into the game. It does come back eventually, maybe after Standing run, but I have not figured out how to consistently reset my crouch-run.

The act of going in, even if the floors are crazy loud, will not alert them. If you are visible through the windows, or standing up near a wall, they might see you with their noclip x-ray vision, so you still have to be careful but just going in won't send them a signal. Now, if they were already on to you, they will come in, but for the time being, they will be nice and slow. Probably just working on stealth and watching your sightlines will help with this.2)Mine get reversed all the time. I don't know yet whether I have to double-tap W again, or shift, but sometimes it reverses to where the quiet walk defaults over the sprint, with the SHift key modifier, and vice-versa.When you have some time, you will want to work on avoidance. After you get good at crawling everywhere, start to practice sprinting through a town. Alert as many Zs as you want and make a train. Then bolting around a couple of building corners and get the feel for when you've lost their sightline, then get far enough away and low enough so that once they round the corner, you will have lost them. IF they don't see you go in a building after they chased you to a corner, they shouldn't go in. Just hang around outside.
doodleisbrutal 33 Posted August 2, 2012 When you die RUN TO A MAJOR CITY like elektro or cherno then go into the: Fire station, Hosipital, and market then get out of the city as fast as possible run up a hill to lose zombies and then go inland with the gear you found. Zombies slow down when you go into a building and climb up stairs and ladders, after your inland with you new gear and not dead yet you might die a few times in the making, then you can listen to others, ps kill everyone on site they will kill you if they see you and get the chance. discwv 2 Posted August 2, 2012 If you're entering a town without any weapons, try and find a steep hill near the town. If any infected spot you it's easy to lose them by quickly running up the hill. The trick is to run up the hill at an angle so you aren't forced to walk, and can keep your speed up.
Northeast 5 Posted August 2, 2012 My advice to a new player:- Most important items: canteen, hunting knife, matches, hatchet. With these you can manage thirst, kill animals and harvest their meat, and then cook that meat to manage hunger and recover blood.- Most important skills: moving with stealth around zombies, losing zombies when you've been seen/heard, and finding animals for meat.Initially (and perhaps even long-term), finding a good gun / ammo is simply not part of what's needed to survive.
