naizarak 41 Posted May 22, 2012 There has to be a standardized system for naming servers - one that includes location, difficulty settings, and camera settings. I'm tired of 2nd guessing every server I join because admins are too lazy to mention that their servers are first person only.

I'm tired of 2nd guessing every server I join because admins are too lazy to mention that their servers are first person only.[/quote']Please don't call server admins lazy. There is a lot of effort involved in keeping our servers running top notch. The main issue is the amount of server title space already eaten up by advertisement. Like this: "DayZ Zombie RPG -" and "(v1.5.8.2) dayzmod.com - hosted by". That's a lot of characters that honestly can be shrunk down and still have the same effect.I've been compiling and developing a database to help aid in this situation until a proper structure is created. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=3781
MasterCheese (DayZ) 0 Posted May 22, 2012 You can also check the difficulty of the server, it should be displayed in the info at the bottom of the server browser.Veteran servers tend to be first person and Regular are usually third person. Veteran servers also never have crosshairs, as far as I've seen, whereas they sometimes appear on Regular ones.

Just click on a server and see what it says about setting. Also it's got nothing to do with server admins being lazy. That is the server name structure we've been told to use by the boss. Mojo (DayZ) 66 Posted May 22, 2012 Indeed. I had to move my server namespace out to Chicago 20 until some issues get resolved. I tried for days to be the 2nd Chicago server set up (I was already Chicago 1) and due to communications issues, ended up being the 10th. I wasn't very happy, and then somebody came along (Lazer) who no fault of his own ended up using Chicago 10 while I used internal codenames as server names -- Chicago 1 Original (the first Chi server up) and Chicago 1 Blues.Told to change it to 10, which had me stepping on Lazer's toes, so I moved it out to 20 in the interest of cooperation, even though I'm still fuming over trying to get 2 up and not getting a response while other people were. ZogVarnoka 26 Posted May 24, 2012 I understand the problems with having to have default things in the name set by The Boss and believe me when I say that all us players are grateful for the hard work you admins do. Maybe something could be done to simplify the naming convention besides regular, vet, expert (wtf is this). What most people care about is 3rd person, crosshair, and name plates. Now, no crosshair obviously means no name plates. But, I have been on a number of servers that were set to "veteran" that had crosshairs and nameplates but no 3rd person or had 3rd person but no crosshairs so everyone is not going by a set standard for those categories.Something I have seen that I personally like is a number of servers (EU ones I believe) have (3rd=0/1 CH=0/1) . "0" signifying off and "1" meaning on. Maybe just including those would be possible given space constraints? The GMT or UTC +/- that some servers have is excellent btw. Love that some admins have included that feature. As a player who specifically likes no crosshairs, but feels 3rd person warranted in some situations, It gets frustrating trying to find a decent server when my usual ones are full.Oh and the list being compiled mentioned above is an excellent start. With the current number of servers though it just isn't enough at this point in its development.

howichrgelazer 69 Posted May 24, 2012 Let's say you have 90-96 characters to work with before you start losing characters on the server list (depends on the client's resolution). Adding all those values starts making the server list unreadable under the current naming scheme.I would suggest the following naming scheme:DayZ - [|||] () dayzmod.com | Host: DayZ - Chicago 10 [CH=0|TP=0|NP=0|Beta 93040+] (v1.5.8.4) dayzmod.com | Host: RageCageGaming.comWhich comes out to 96 characters.-----------------------------The old naming schemeDayZ Zombie RPG - Chicago 10 [CH=0|TP=0|NP=0|Beta 93040+] (v1.5.8.4) dayzmod.com - hosted by RageCageGaming.comWhich would come out to 111 characters.
