Etmer 24 Posted July 26, 2012 (edited) I believe the dinner bell is not working right now but I don't know for sure.I'd say its entirely situational.Lee EnfieldPros: Highly accurate, extremely deadly punch to both players and zombies. Has an effective range of 400M.Cons: Extremely loud, high recoil.Personal Review: The Lee Enfield was born to be a sniper, and is even used as a sniper with an upgraded scope in WW2. Even if the Lee Enfield has no scope in the game, the Lee Enfield is a weapon that can prove deadly with it's instant-killing capabilities up to 400M. The iron sights are bad in close quarters but prove to be great in medium-long range. It is however uncomfortable once again in extreme ranges. Other than the dinner bell effect and high recoil, the Lee Enfield is a gun you will not want pointing at you in a corridor. Winchester:Pros: Quiet, low recoil, and instant kills zombies. Can also carry 5 more rounds than the Lee Enfield.Cons: Slower fire rate, short range, does not kill players as fast.Personal Review: The Winchester is originally a rifle, but is considered a shotgun in DayZ. The rifle is not as powerful as the Lee Enfield, with medium damage and a range up to 150M only. The iron sights are ineffective, and basically disappears in medium range. However, due to its quiet nature, without high recoil, the gun is a great "looting" weapon. In PVP, the gun can instant-kill injured characters, and instant kill zombies by default. However, the weapon will not instant-kill characters that has a fair amount of blood, giving the victim a good chance to react. My Verdict: The Lee Enfield wins. The Lee Enfield is very powerful and can be used in many ranges if the user is skilled. The Winchester loses as it has slower firing rate and short range, also it's lack of power in some situations. The Winchester however, is a perfect newbie gun, that helps newbies get out of situations like aggroing tons of zombies. The Lee Enfield appears to be more PVP based while the Winchester is more PVE. In the land of where players are more dangerous than zombies, the Lee Enfield can help you if you know how to use it correctly. Then i wasnt sure if i hit em or not. By the 2nd guy i looked up and saw i had 2 murders so i stopped hehehe.Contrary to popular belief, Enfield is not 1 shot 1 kill on a 12k blood player if you body shot them. Tex Willer 47 Posted July 26, 2012 Me and a buddy made a comparison between the lee and the winchester, me usine the latter.I could still hit a tree and kill a walking cow from almost 400 meters, you just need to take your time aiming.Of course the lee is way better at long range, but i still prefer the winchester :D

I've seen crossbows knock people unconscious for a short period of time, so why not the Lee Enfield? Edited July 26, 2012 by Etmer

_Gunslinger_ 46 Posted July 27, 2012 I dont call it the Lee WINfield for nothing. Seriously? You could have headshotted both players with the Winchester at that range. The fact that you rely on a 1-hit-cripple weapon in that situation speaks volumes of your skill.

I shot them both in the leg on purpose because its funnier and i enjoy toying with my kills. Only CoD kiddies whine abot OMGEEERD HEARDSHEERT!But i did record a Winchester killing before this one. It tells the true story of who really killed Tupac. Sorry i was going for the OMGERD HEARDSHERT but the dude ran as i was lining it up. Apparently im an excellent legs marksman though. macbuk 23 Posted July 27, 2012 Well, after the nerf I'm still with Enfield. Even though it's damage has been almost halfed, it's still better than Winchester, and now their audible ranges are almost the same.
disorder 344 Posted July 27, 2012 I always find winchesters in those barns and long pig pens, they are better with slugs I think.

*Regulator* Insaner 23 Posted July 27, 2012 (edited) I'm allways in doubt when I have either a Winchester in my pack or an Enfield, when I find the other one...But there should be a scope for the Enfield, that could be found rarely or w/e.I always imagine the Enfield as the WW2 version with a scope, but then I take aim and see its just iron sights :PBut then again that might shift weapon balance again and would require a whole new mechanic to combine items.Allthough being able to recombine ammo together to gain backspace would be swell, buts thats another topic. disorder 344 Posted July 27, 2012 they can only use 1866 slug ammoAh I thought they might have had a pellet type too, I just never found any.
LockeDown 144 Posted July 27, 2012 I prefer the Winchester personally. It's quieter, and still has a very respectable effective range.Moreso, it's just a good looking weapon. I exude class when I carry it.
Bludy 324 Posted July 27, 2012 i always try to switch soon as possible to assault rifles, but first of all, when respawned, winchester is better: less noise when in a big town..but if i need to go on the mountains, fresh geared, lee is the best choice

You use the Enfield because the one hit out of four shots needs to count. For most players it's moot point at that range, the other player is dead. If you'd posted a video of a 300m+ kill with the Enfield, and asked the Winchester fans to do likewise, this would be a different story. But to post a ham-fisted ambush at close range and claim that somehow proves the Enfield's superiority... just no.
NoseDragon 19 Posted July 28, 2012 Gunslinger is right. In that video, it would have looked much more convincing if you actually went for a kill shot, especially with the Lee Enfield. With what you were doing, you might as well use a Winchester.Myself? I'll take an Enfield over a Winchester, as long as I have a pistol. Right now, I have an AK-47u with a glock, and my backup primary is a winchester.
_Gunslinger_ 46 Posted July 29, 2012 So with the Enfield nerf this comparison got a lot more interesting.-Enfield has less drop-off-Winchester has higher ROF-Enfield is a longer weapon making indoor combat less practical-Winchester has larger ammo slots-Enfield is marginally more powerful-Winchester is marginally quieter (~40m difference in audible range)
SadPanda (DayZ) 181 Posted July 29, 2012 Winchester for shizzle, not as loud and it shoots faster,
Schnyder 0 Posted July 29, 2012 Does any one know the sound range on the Lee Enfield? It's very high I know but that's all the wiki says and I'm looking more for a range in meters.
_Gunslinger_ 46 Posted July 30, 2012 Its new audible range is about 164m. It used to be in the mid 200's. This makes it louder than the AKM (150m) but quieter than every other 7mm weapon (sniper rifles, FN FAL and MMG's, 180m)

In RL it actually is a pretty good rifle (for the time) that has been widely used in the US independence war, and not a shotgun. And to the video guy, do yourself a favor and turn off that bloom...
