Can't search gutted animal

After gutting a dead animal with my hunting knife, it says "animal has X amount of meat on carcass" but when I examine the carcass, my only options are "hide body" and "study body". I can't seem to search the carcass the way I would a dead zombie or player. Am I doing something wrong 'cause I'm a big ole n00b?

happened to me too, sometimes i gut animals after hours of searching and they magically disappear in the ground, not sure whats the problem, try a different server and see if it happens agian

This happened to me a couple times yesterday, but I was also successful in getting meat from animals.

Out of approximately 6 animals I was not able to get meat from 2... the difference between them? The 2 I couldn't get meat from where stationary. The other 4 that worked correctly were walking around normally.

Obvioulsy 6 is a small sample size, but you might see if you can find an animal that is moving?

I was unable to get meat from three animals, I know for sure that two of them were not moving. Guess it's just a glitchy thing.

This has also happened to me.

The solution is simply patience. If you sit at the body and wait for a minute or two, you will eventually be able to loot the animal. It's a weird bug, indeed.
