Are Hackers only seen by PVPer's?

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering. I used to play Battlefield 3 a lot, and can only say I saw maybe 10 confirmed hackers in the 9 or so months I played (2-3 hours a day), and yet the community would regularly rage on the Battlelog forums about how there's a hacker on every server.

When I started playing Day Z a month or so ago, I started to see threads in the forums about hacker sightings. Since then, it's like every third thread is a rage thread over teleporting hackers, hackers that wipe whole servers, hackers that spawn next to players and hack them to death while taking no damage etc..

I have yet to see a hacker and I play a lot too. I don't PVP, I don't even go near other players so I'm wondering if the majority of the players complaining are mainly PVP players? If so, maybe mix up your play style? Stay away from towns and airfields etc? (just a suggestion really - you should play how ever you like).

Also, what's the most common type of hack you guys are seeing? Are they mostly 'item spawning' or are they 'combat hacks'? I only ask out of curiosity as I'm surprised that if hacking is so rife, why I haven't experienced it yet.

Never saw one in three weeks, i once heard a helicoper in my server and it was just some day ago with the actual patch, not sure if they can spawn anymore. Just this.

Two days ago I was in the middle of nowhere with two friends, and suddenly a guy teleported right behind me and gunned me down. One of the guys with me was able to flank him, and after putting two clips into his head, concluded that the guy had some sort of god mode.

Also, I've been mass teleported, and yesterday the server I was on got nuked and everyone died.

To be fair, there's definitely been a spike in hacker activity recently. I'm sure you'll run across it soon, don't despair.

I think that scripters want big results, so they go for the servers that are near full.

I would guess that people who are in the wilderness, or vehicle or helicopter crash hunting might be on lower pop servers, while the people who hate running for 5 minutes to get to Cherno are on the more full servers.

I find also that people who cherish PvP are hurt more when they are killed. They want to feel superior and getting killed by someone else like that is humiliating to them. I'm sure many of them get to the shrugging off point, and scripting is out of control at the moment... But the game mechanics are still working... It's not like they are breaking the servers so we just can't play.

I saw a hacker a few days ago, a friend and me were out on a field when a guy in a ghillie suit just appeared next to us und tried to kill us with a crowbar, my friend packed 8 M1014 slugs in his chest but he did not die. So the hacker switched to his sidearm and shot us both. (I had a CZ550 without ammo, so nothing I could do).

But no polymorphs, teleports or nukes for me so far.

Lol. I got killed by one last night in the middle of nowhere, close to Myshkino. Park up my truck on the side of the road, after scanning the area for players. The blackest night you've ever seen in dayz. Get out for 2 seconds, before I hear the standing-to-prone sound about 5m to my right. Instantly shot by an AS50. AS50 can't use night vision, fyi. I'd also just flootlit that entire area with truck headlights just a few seconds before, noone was there.

Please explain how I avoid this, ty.

I hardly used to see hackers maybe once every week or so, seems like now I see them 2-3 times a day. Nukes, server wide teleports, getting thrown in the air, spawned crates everywhere, teleporters going to camps an nuking them. We used to be able to detect for the most part who was doing it in admin logs but getting huge logs and sifting through them the scripts have become harder to sift thru and detect to ban people.

These two sound similar.. same hacker?

You can't avoid it really. If they can teleport to you, there's really nowhere you can hide. Saying that though, as mentioned above, playing on low pop servers might be a start as hackers wouldn't get as much satisfaction killing just a few players..

ANZ 5 got turned into dogs and tele'd miles off the map last night, and that is the first time in 99 hours that I've encountered a hack of any sorts. I mean my legs have randomly broken at times, but most of those could quite easily have been sniper shots. I could have screamed hack at other times, but odds are it was just good play.

I also played BF3 (hit over 550 hours on that little guy; I do like a good arcade experience too) and encountered 3 hackers. 3. In >550 hours.

That's one every 7.5 days of play. But yes, every BF3 related forum is rife with hack reports and hackusations, because too many people fail to believe they were just bested. Same with this game, same with every online game.

There were 8-12 players in that server.

Ouch. Well then buddy, I guess you're screwed.. unless you find a server with an active admin, password protected or host your own I guess?

The truth is; every single cheater/hacker/scripter is one too many.

The biggest problem is that most people have no idea what the difference is...

Right now we see a lot of no-lifers who use scripts to get more then the game would allow, like top-grade weapons, vehicles and other stuff which aren't even a part of the DayZ mod (see this a lot!).

Lately there are also a lot of reports of players who use scripts/cheats to teleport players, or kill them instantly while on the other side of the map (not yet seen myself, but YT has enough proof).

Real hackers (who "hack" into the computers/server) aren't in DayZ or any other game, DDOS-attackers at most.

And another fact; the more we cry about those kids, the more they like it and the less we enjoy our game...

So let's play some DayZ and don't worry about your beans (too much). Have fun!

I appreciate what you're saying but the fact of the matter is; the biggest problem is not that people don't know the difference, its that the cheaters exist in the first place.

The semantics behind a hacker or cheater aside, whatever you want to call them, they simply need to be dealt with.

Saw a guy by the name of Sketty today. He shot our friend in our campsite, as two of us were just coming back from a supermarket run, so we changed course and approached from a different direction where we'd have a good overview of what was going on down there. My friend and I see nothing moving down there, we scan our vehicles, when one suddenly drives off. We jump in our jeep and try to cut him off. We "succeed". Succeed in that he finds us. My friend unloads close to a full clip of M107 with the AS50 into the drivers seat, and we both see blood. But the truck keeps moving so we shoot it apart whilst he is in it. He gets out, but we have no other visual confirmation for this but the fact that we see moving blood spurts, so we just go trigger mad. Predator style. All of a sudden, our jeep starts driving off.

We shoot that up too, and blood spurts come out again.

The server restarts. Phew, all our stuff was still fine when we got back, but that almost sucked major balls.

Sorry for terrible punctuation and other forms of literal suckiness.

Hackers are similar to bandits in they usually go hunting in cherno and such. If you avoid PVP hotspots you're less likely to come across them - but it still won't save you from their instant kill and mass teleport scripts.

I never saw a hacker. I'm a survivor, if I wanna to pvp only, there is other games for that. I already had neutralized some players, get them unconscious, broke they legs, and move to another place. I'm 100% stealth, if a saw a player, I watch him, observe his behavior and try to avoid confront.

I usually play in server with half of the capacity because of the fps and ping, isn't even close to be fair play with 160 ms of ping in a server with 30 other people with < 70 ms , so I just avoid these servers.

My first 10 lives was short, like 2 or 5 days, but I'm with a 40 days char, killed only one person and shoot many, but I avoid to kill them, because kill isn't necessary to neutralize danger.

just in last few days:

guys where harrasing us with teleportation stuff, teleport behind us and kill us. we had to learn to pull server logs, and find the scripters. Acording to logs dude spawned on our server (fresh toon) in 2 mins he was fully geared out (with as50 and some wierd thermal scope, that is not in the game). Then he started killing us accross the whole server.

We had an guy in god mode spawn in midle of our base, we put ton of bullets in him, he would not die, when we tried to server ban him, he keept changeing ip and game cd keys. ofc he killed most of us. We just had to shut down server till he got bored and left.

some1 started to drop planes and chopers on our base, trying to kills us. had to shut down server and find who was scripting.

everyone on server had their knee broken (witch is somewhat hillarious with reference to skyrim) and those who did not abort, got killed ofc. Ofc we server baned the only guy who had not his knee broken.

but yeah, pretty much half of that crazy stuff you see on youtube, has happened to us. I try not to log into the game to much, so don't get randomly killed by hacker again...

I've been killed once by someone that had to have been hacking. Looting military tents in Stary on a dark night found a gps and decided to leave got about 50 yards from tents and was shot in the head from a few feet away with 50 cal. Was in full sprint towards the trees it was so black I couldn't see anything but somehow he managed to get next to me and shoot me in the head.

Iv most likly by now logged well over 500 hours into this game. And this is what iv seen thus far:

When i first started playing there where about 700 dayz servers. I never saw a hacker (but was still learning how to play)

When the server list on the six updater hit around 1000 servers. About 6 times i was running with 2 buddies and i would just drop dead. my buddies never heard a shot and no one ever came for my body. At first i thought hacker but after learning more about the game the AS50s sound radius is bugged. A player wont hear it if hes 200meters or more away Most the time. The AS50 with the 10 round m107 magazine does 100,000 blood dmg (its to kill cars).

Now that there are almost 2000 dayz servers Iv run into 1 god mode guy with a G36. A guy that teleported to me. Iv been thrown into the air once. Mass teleported to a death squad once, and other minor little fun times have happened.

This has happened across several servers as i was tring to find a expert server to call home.

My thoughts on the whole matter... Find a quiet server to call home and hope for the best.

was in the "never seen one" boat until friday night. Got telekilled. well fuck that. Switch to another server. Play about an hour, Jet goes overhead, flying damn low. I giggle, wondering if he's also blasting highway to the dangerzone over the mic (would be brilliant if he was). I check the player list, no one new on (only 8 people, it's nearly pitch black darkness, all the bitches flee to daylight servers). I stick around figuring no harm so far, LIGAF some guy wants to buzz around in a jet. Then tele, leg break, and kill.

So fuck it. I'm taking a little vacation in 2 weeks, and probably wont' have time to get on this weekend anyway, maybe when i get back the situation will have toned down a bit.

The only way I could possibly imagine that you don't see a hacker is if you play pussy-style and stick to low-pop servers so you can accumulate loot and PvE. As for high-pop servers, almost every single one I joined in the last few days ended up with me having to Alt+F4 to avoid being mowed down after everyone in the server was mass teleported to the center of Cherno. There have been other times that hackers took away my weapons.

I consistently PvP so I get to see hackers on on a more consistent and personal basis. I've seen atleast half a dozen ghillie-suit wearers in the last couple days at the Balota airfields. I've also seen a hacker teleport directly in behind me in effort to kill me (he was also in a ghillie), but I managed to alt+F4 out before he killed me. It's obvious that a bunch of people are using ESP hacks as well (which is frustrating). It's no fun being killed through walls...
