redhead@email.cz 18 Posted May 22, 2012 Hello, first of all, I love DayZ. Really appreciate your work. Thank you. Now, my suggestion is to have an option to save the character on demand (via a menu or something) and not automatically every minute or so. The main reason is that the game can kick me off in a really bad area - say full of zeds normally, which I killed, but then the game kicked me off and when I log back in I can be very surprised and may die easily, just because of the bad place it saved right before it kicked me.Although, disabling the auto-save may not be very good. But lets say a combination of it? ie. to have an option to save my self and auto-save as well. When I log back in I choose if I want to spawn at the last auto-save or my own save. The biggest problem I can come up with is that it doubles character info on the character servers and may bring some kind of cheating (but I don't see any benefit atm). oktyabr 53 Posted May 22, 2012 Save at your tent full of good loot then go out hunting. Raid on survivors backfires and you are afraid of getting shot. Log off, log back on back at tent. See how that could be a problem?

You can always log off when someone fires at you and log back in to save yourself from dying, you just spawn at the place you were a minute or so ago and not 10 minutes away tent.I think, spawning at the place full of zeds where the game kicked you is not pretty. I am yet to experience tomorrow, first I have to forge my balls into steel.
Gremlin (DayZ) 0 Posted May 22, 2012 The big gameplay challenge right now revolves around the way that the character is persistent across all servers. This has introduced a number of exploits and weird edge cases. "Save on Demand", while clearly pitched with good intentions, doesn't look deep enough at what's going on with the system; it's a patch on top of the current alpha behavior. Characters persisting across shards is a new paradigm, and I don't think anyone (not even rocket) have quite grasped the full implications of this. We're going to be discovering weirdness for some time to come."Save on demand" would change the game into one of managing the save-system rather than playing the game. There are already a bunch of exploits that operate because of the save system's architecture, so the last thing we need is to make it explicit. And since the main upside to on-demand saving is to work around problems in Alpha (server crashes, etc.) I'm unable to support this proposal.
redhead@email.cz 18 Posted May 22, 2012 And since the main upside to on-demand saving is to work around problems in Alpha (server crashes' date=' etc.)[/quote']These problems may not be server side only - internet/wifi shutdown/disconnect, power shutdown, computer error, and so on. But I got your point in the rest of your post.
jason.jblackman@gmail.com 3 Posted May 22, 2012 The ability to manually save should not be added in to a multiplayer game, ever. This would easily be exploited and allow people to perform actions without any consequences, as they could easily just load from before they died.
