rossi (DayZ) 3 Posted May 22, 2012 A server side option perhaps.Instead of being able to kill other players, have the ability to mug them for their stuff. The other play can possibly put up resistance. The more experienced they are the hard it is to mug them. That way players still get the benefit of taking players kit, but the victims are left alive (and possbily some kit still there). Time Glitch 453 Posted May 22, 2012 I really like that idea. Forces their hands up, and they drop everything. Their pack is replaced with a basic patrol pack, and they are left with a couple of clips of Makarov. As long as the robber is holding them up, they can't move, so the robber gets to pick the loot pile for what they want.
rossi (DayZ) 3 Posted May 22, 2012 It could be a server side option so the hardcore players can still kill each other. It might be cool, if you want to mug a experienced player you need a few players to gang up on him.
maxovitsj@gmail.com 4 Posted May 22, 2012 You can do this already? I've seen a video where 2 guys rob another dude in the middle of the night, but then he shoots one of them in the face while the other is looting his stuff.
pauleh 1 Posted May 22, 2012 Perhaps bandits or other players that wanted to save humanity would simply leg shot people so they fall unconscious and then they can loot their gear and run off. Of course if they didn't want to get the murder they could leave the victim with a few medical supplies.
TeaLeaf 5 Posted May 22, 2012 You can already do this. However as the main disadvantage to dying is losing your gear 9/10 times it makes more sense to fight back anyway.Get mugged: Lose your gear.Die: Lose your gear.Shoot the mugger in the face: Keep you stuff. The only reason I'd give my stuff to a mugger was if it was a "give me some beans and we won't risk fighting each other" kind of deal or if they fired some warning sniper shots at me and told me to drop some stuff to pass. It's a good option for when you are desperate for supplies but don't want to be a total dick.
rickenbacker 190 Posted May 22, 2012 As previously mentioned, you already have this ability. No need to add an unnecessarily compex mechanism for it.
pozo15 2 Posted May 22, 2012 This is not a needed feature. Like TeaLeaf says it can be done through player behavior. Yeah it's risky, but if you outnumber a player, you're gonna get his stuff one way or another. I'd rather get mugged than killed, especially if I was far up North, or had a tent stashed somewhere etc.Obviously if you just spawned as a new player there isn't much incentive for you to not just take your chances and blast the robber(s).Forcing a mechanic where the player being mugged is artificially being restrained and can't make his own decisions, doesn't sound very fun to me. Mutonizer 78 Posted May 22, 2012 Get mugged: Lose your gear.Die: Lose your gear.Shoot the mugger in the face: Keep you stuff. When I play, I play to survive as long as possible, total immersion. So for me:- Get mugged: lose gear, possibly keep life, it's a 50/50. If more than one, I'll choose that any day over dying. I've already been bugged out of my basic pistol and pack a couple times, never had a trouble gearing up again.- Die: lose gear, lose life (obviously), it's a loss.- Shoot the mugger: If it's one guy, maybe, on a good day. If it's two or more guys, too big risk.If you don't care about surviving, then just, shoot whoever.I'm totally opposed to the OP suggestion however. It IS possible already to get mugged but nobody's doing it because the risk is too great. An option to tie someones hands (with some kind of "do you accept" feature), that would last for about 5 minutes for example, would alleviate the risk for the mugger and stabilize a situation, giving less reason to shoot.
