JCDenton (DayZ) 12 Posted July 25, 2012 So understanding the current vehicle spawn system, something does seem to be a bit off.99% of servers i come across, there is not a vehicle in sight. Now I have come across a few while playing (and several on one server which had an old beta), however the current number of vehicles on each server seems rather low.Now the if we had the current number of vehicles, and only 40 people on the server (all time, not just logged in at once), this would be fine. However, it seems that with the large player base, unless you find a server that is brand new, your chances of finding even a broken down vehicle are extremely slim (you find more crashed helos for example)So to change this, keep the current despawn mechanics, but incorporate regular spawns for vehicles based upon teir. For example:Shit tier: tractors, Pushbikes - Spawn every 1-3 daysLow Tier: Civilian cars, Bus - Spawn every 3-5 daysMid tier: Offroad vehicles, motorcycles and quadbikes. - Spawn every 5-7 daysHigh Tier: Helicopters etc - Every 7 to 14 days. Tweaking this so that more broken down vehicles spawn would mean that factories etc become more interesting to players. What may be needed later however (to control server lag due to item number) is a hardcoded limit on how many vehicles of each type there are on the server. Random placement would also help stop people bouncing around servers looking for vehicle spawns. My opinion on the issue of vehicles being overly rare is most likely to the tendency for people to get a vehicle and hide it, rather than actually using it alot of the time.
Altze 13 Posted July 25, 2012 Vehicles can still be kept off map/out of bounds. It just needs to be 'refreshed' every 24 hours or it will despawn. This is still a completely broken mechanic because the groups that hoarde all these vehicles will have someone who's able to log in and just mvoe the vehicles 2 pixels to keep it refreshed.Vechiles should be forced to be kept inside the games boundaries just as much as tents are. If vehicle is kept out of bounds it'll despawn if not used within say ~4 hours. This would stop the piss poor rate of vehicle spawns.Besides, if you do pinch a vehicle from what it seems most people will just hack to find it again. Pretty sad state of affairs

Food 309 Posted July 25, 2012 I actually found a Bus spawn yesterday in my month old server. Makes a nice addition to my "Admin camp" as I believe it's called these days.
JCDenton (DayZ) 12 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) I actually found a Bus spawn yesterday in my month old server. Makes a nice addition to my "Admin camp" as I believe it's called these days. Not criticising, but this is the sort of behaviour that has made finding vehicles such a rare event. Because of their rarity due to hoarding, people will straight away try to horde it :P While this is perfectly natural and i have no issues with it, hiding said vehicle effectively "deletes" it from the game, unless someone gets lucky enough to find your camp.Which is why having vehicles spawn based on time only, would improve how often they are used. Not to mention, how often a proper firefight happens over something like a vehicle. Edited July 25, 2012 by JCDenton
NoseDragon 19 Posted July 25, 2012 But... firefights happening over vehicles is awesome!I do agree that certain low level vehicles should have faster respawn times. It would be nice if bikes were a little easier to find.If the respawn points could be more randomized, it would keep people from server hopping to find a vehicle.More respawn points (tons more) but a lower percent chance of a vehicle actually spawning there, like with loot. If only a few points had a vehicle respawn every few days, it would be pointless to search all the spots looking for a vehicle on reset.

But you know what'll happen, the people who manage to get the first vehicles will begin to hoard them, and then it'll be the same situation, unless the vehicle limit is like 50.

Caltrops would also be a possibility. We still want to make vehicles something special, but not as rare as they are now. Problem is that if we provoke a "glut", that everyone will be driving around in cars etc. Then again "accidents" account for alot of the vehicles. Would be interesting to see what would happen if the spawn limits were removed,

Especially as the cars seem to be made of glass and explode when they crash.Oh the Humanity!Actually the highway traffic picking up may not be so bad, means you could actually camp the approaches to places rather than sitting at the NW airfield/StaryAnd make people spend more time in the wilderness if they want to avoid people. Mind you the moment he saw me he instantly started shooting, shame he didn't respond to my "friendly?" over direct chat, he took me down to 6000 blood from 9000 (He was a terrible shot, I wasn't even shooting at him). Anyway, moral of the story is, if he doesn't answer you, he's going to shoot you.

One thing that would happen with vehicles is people coming straight from the coast (on a pushbike) to raid the barracks for weapons. More traffic is good traffic.
