It happens to everyone now, I think. All my friends have it.

I just google the server I need and connect directly via the IP.

Steps

  1. Install Steam
  2. Buy Arma2:Combined Operations
  3. Download Arma2 + Operation Arrowhead.
  4. Watch some tv
  5. Launch Arma2 + Quit out
  6. Launch Arma2 Opertation Arrowhead + Quit out

  7. Download Six-Updater (or dayz-commander)
  8. Launch Six Launcher shortcut
  9. Click verify / install
  10. Go grab some coffee

Launch Dayz & play on a server before u do anything else.

This way u know u are good up this point

Optional steps

RamDisk

  1. Launch Ram Disk & create a disk copy
  2. Copy C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@DayZ to the new virtual ramdisc drive.

  3. Edit the file C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\_runA2CO_beta
  4. Change the @DayZ location to its new location i.e

I had originally "-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;EXPANSION;ca;@DayZ"

changed to "-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;EXPANSION;ca;Z:\@DayZ"

note:- U will need to start ramdisk before u play dayz or update dayz. Or go & buy a ssd drive like i did just for dayz :)

DayZ Commander

Download DayZCommander @ http://www.dayzcommander.com/

And use it to launch the mod. Its basicly a server browser & has settings for steam. So u can use steam overlay handy for the webbrowser.

Startup Parameters

Read up @ http://community.bis...rtup_Parameters

Using dayz-commander in settings i added the launch options

-cpuCount=6 -exThreads=7 -maxMem=2047

This is for 6 core cpu & the threads options tells arma2 all the threads can do file options etc..

maxMem tells arma 2 engine it can use 2gb of ram. its the highest value u use.

edit

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\_runA2CO_beta and change

"-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;EXPANSION;ca;@DayZ"

"-mod=%_ARMA2PATH%;EXPANSION;ca;Z:\@DayZ" or whatever your new drive is called..

edit:- Realise u will need to start ramdisk before u play dayz or update dayz. And end up removing because its perforcemance gains arent worth it for myself.

edit:- and forgot the gamespy servers where down opps

I highlighted the stuff in bold im not to sure about i modified one line of the stuff, but alas i couldn't find the second line you were referring to...

Is there anyway you could re-iterate how to get it going with steam again?
