I just killed a guy at Balota on the tower, went down and looted the body. On the stairs in the way down, I hear pistol fire, so stop and wait to see if the guy runs into the tower. I'm on the stairs leaning over to the left to give as little to shoot as possible.

Then I get a broken leg and go down to 4000 health.

Roughly 5 seconds later, this time not leaning, I am dead.

I hear no shooting, and indeed the second time I am hidden around the stairwell.

So, is there a supersonic sniper rifle where you hear no bullets? Is there some hack that doles out huge damage and breaks legs?

I'm just curious to find out what happened, knowledge is power and all that.

Lag I was wating at a door the door opend and nothing happend. I look to my left and there is a guy standing there. I react put 17 rounds in him then get one shot in the head but hes fine. Go go Inets

You break your legs often in buildings. Never ever ever lay down and move in a building as you will almost certainly break a leg, even being prone near oddly shaped features (IE stairwells) is dodgy.

Certain collisions cause you to break legs or randomly die, it's a known bug.

This can happen when opening/closing doors, stepping on small rocks, etc.

Assuming it wasn't lag or a bug.

Possible sniper, but you'd probably hear it. Maybe a suppressed weapon, but you'd still probably hear it. Maybe a crossbow.

Did you look behind you? There are two ways into the tower. A ladder leads directly to the top on the opposite side of the main entrance.

I am motionless on the stairwell leaning over to the left. No movement = no broken leg and 8000 health loss from anything other than a weapon (or hack).

I had been upstairs, nobody was above me or below me in the building. I would hear the ladded up the side of the building for sure.

Possibly a crossbow, but would have been some awesome shooting, and then how did I get killed when I was hidden on the stairs from the door.

I guess we'll never know. Just really curious about whether I would hear a shot from a supersonic sniper rifle.

Am I the only one who didnt break leg even once in a building in my entire gameplay life(like month or 2)? has been proning croaching opening closing dors and so on,

broke leg once only jumping down from height but its realy normal in DayZ xD

You wouldn't hear the ladder sometimes. Varies from person to person, based on how they use it. Some people know to only slowly move and remain silent.

Second, it could have been lag. Them, you, the server whatever. Those pistol rounds could have hit you, then taken a long time to load up. That guy could have fired during his Desync. On your screen, he was outside not moving, on his he ran in, shot you and put you out of your misery. Desync ends and you die.

Third, you don't have to move on the stairs. Anything could have happened, from a leg sticking out of the wall, giving him a target, to you looking in the wrong direction and pushing yourself off the wall with your gun (try it with trees, you move yourself by looking at objects that are too close) and broke your leg on the wall. Funky, I know.

If you died from a headshot, you wouldn't hear the round being fired. Odd I know, but technically you are dead when the sound hits you, so you don't hear it when you were alive.

And last, people can shoot you when you can't see them. Elbows, Feet, even the side of your body (in first person, totally different area in 3rd, which is your lower body) can stick out without you being able to see past an object.

Sucks, in the end it could have just been a hacker, but the chances of that are pretty slim. Just chalk it up to lag or a bug,

Hmmmmmm.

Something similar happened to me a week or so back.

I was in a deerstand when I started taking fire, so I went prone. The guy comes up and starts shooting me, I shoot back, but neither of us can hit the other.

So it's a stalemate .... By rotating the camera I can see him, and I can;t get out of the stand. But he can;t get in to get me.

Then all of a sudden my leg breaks, I lose half my health, then it drops to 0 and dead.

I assumed he had a buddy that hit my leg as it glitched out of the deerstand with an axe, but I heard nothing and those things are pretty loud.
