Chandler (DayZ) 14 Posted July 24, 2012 (edited) A newbie question regarding the map.I've obtained it a number of times on different survivors. Now in the many youtube videos I've watched when other players bring up their map they have a pretty blue dot that showed them where they were.I, however, never do. My map is just a map with a "good luck finding where you are." Is there something special I need to do to make that happen? With that said, it's still been a fun meta-game to do it manually all this time but after two weeks, I'm beginning to feel shafted ;) Edited July 24, 2012 by ChandlerL
Gogster (DayZ) 626 Posted July 24, 2012 I believe you need a watch as well, or maybe a compass - one of those devices with the map will show you your location on it.
Scawtygs 20 Posted July 24, 2012 yeah, it's a combination of tools that puts a cursor on the map, i've never noticed it, unless i had a watch, compass, map, and binoculars...so i'm not sure which combination is required. but it does require more than just a plain map
DZR_Mikhail 2424 Posted July 24, 2012 Player markers on the map are enabled by server difficulty settings. It's enabled by default on "Recruit" difficulty. Higher difficulty levels have this turned off by default.http://wiki.zspecialunit.org/index.php?title=ArmA_2_Server_Difficulty_Settings
scofieldr 4 Posted July 24, 2012 yeah and it does not depend on the items you have
Chandler (DayZ) 14 Posted July 24, 2012 (edited) Ah got it. Thanks. Turns out I have all the ancillary items as well so that definitely wasn't it. (Compass, Watch, Binocs, etc.) - I've never even seen a recruit server-- been playing on Regular and Veteran servers. I suppose I should filter for them from now on while I'm still learning- especially because I want to get a mate to play as well and y'know... baby steps. Also thanks for that wiki site. Going to bookmark. I've been getting my info from youtube vids, and the dayzwiki which only listed a few tidbits on Regular through Expert difficulties. Bludy 324 Posted July 24, 2012 recruit servers show also on the crosshairs the name and distance of other players..pay attention on those servers..you are not the only to know your position
MGreenwald 49 Posted July 24, 2012 Regular does as well, at least the ones i've joined. but if you hold shift and click where you're going on the map you'll see a objective marker when you go outa the map to guide you where you're going.
