Gogster (DayZ)

Effectiveness of Battleeye

Recommended Posts

As someone who worked for a considerable time with PunksBusted I'm concerned by the level of hacking within DayZ.

I see from looking over the Battleeye website they take a similar stance as the Punkbuster engine, in that they don't discuss how the software works, which is understandable. However, Punkbuster allowed the creation of remote repositories and shared ban lists, whereas Battleeye doesn't seem to support a similar system.

Unless any of you guys or the creators know any different?

There used to be an old adage with the Punkbuster system:

Punkbuster: ok

Punkbuster + streaming: better

Punkbuster + streaming + MBL & custom check: best

I'm not saying Punkbuster was infallible but with an active community creating custom checks for cheats the system worked very well.

PunksBusted was not in isolation, PBBBans runs a similar remote repository with custom checks and master ban lists. Is DayZ forever tied to the Battleeye system? Because at the moment it doesn't seem fit for purpose.

This muddying of the waters by the creation of multiple competing anti-cheat systems seems to have only served in giving the cheaters free reign, with no dedicated cheat detection system and the resources of game developers committed to it.

It's becoming a sad state of affairs which exasperates honest gamers.

At the moment I would say it would be as it's what ARMA uses. Who knows that the standalone will use though.

Punkbuster is also shit ... just look at Combat Arms Europe ...

No matter the protection, hackers will always manage to bypass it.

And when I say hackers I mean hackers, those who create the cheats / scripts ... why flatter a cheater by calling him a hacker.

Hackers will always find a way. However, Punkbuster seems to be what every man and his dog company is using.

As Jean-Paul Sartre said: "The only problem with online gaming is other people."

Punkbuster on its own struggles, seems Battleeye is in this stage - but PB with additional admin checks is a valid tool.

Just calling it shit doesn't do anyone any favours. Does Battleeye even support admin screenshots?

Battleye was and has never been worth the money BIS contracts it out for. Who ever came up with that idea needs to be fired. Granted not till DayZ has BIS ever made this much fast cash so being a poor company is the problem. Now that they are making bank im sure they will find a new contract and MABEY EVEN ONE DAY Arma will have GOOD sounds..I mean good too cause at the moment they are terrible at best but thats a /rant for another thread.

Ive just started with DayZ tonight.. and after more than an hour playing, avoiding zombies and searching for a gun, I get kicked from the server saying : You have been ejected by battleeye. Does this happen often? I never encountered this problem using arma2 before so I suppose it's some kind of bug with battleeye that believed I had a cheat or something?
