GPS features

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and have been in the game for about 5 days. I finally have gotten skilled enough to pitch a tent and start building up a stash of supplies (when they don't suddenly disappear into the ground or out of my backpack)

One of the things I have gotten ahold of is GPS. I have watched the tutorials and understand how to use the mini map, markers, grid co-ordinates, etc. However, during my last foraging trip I was looking at the map and noticed some vague circle markers with an arrow on them. When the map cursor was held over these points the text "Man" pops up. The markers tended to fade in and out. I assume these are other players with the arrow indicating their direction.

My question is:

Are these indeed other players?

What triggers then to show up on the map?

Why do they fade?

My 2nd question is:

I have seen "note" markers put down by other players on the map with labels added. I have seen suggestions on the forum that this my be linked to the mode their communications are switched to i.e. with "Group" open the points are visable to everyone with a map and in "command" they are private or possibly only visible to yourself or perhaps someone close by.

Can anyone clarify this? Is there any way to make map notes that only I can read that will remain invisable to others? For example, my tent is pitched in a bush and is so invisable that I don't see it unless i stand on top of it. It would be nice to be able to mark the position on the map, but not if this will advertise the whereabouts to every Tom, Dick and Bandit.

Thank for any and all help

Fish

I am pretty sure 'man' is just a zombie.

I think if someone pulls up the map while you are close by you see them as a blue marker called survivor. Noticed my friend came up beside me when we used ours at the same time once.

This depends on server settings and such, seems like an easy mode as you always know where you are.

On the map a 'man' is a zombie, it will come up orange. Anything blue and labelled 'survivor', 'rifleman' or 'sniper' (survivor in ghillie) is another player.

They are triggered by you sighting them, and fade as time passes to show their last known location' as they most likely will have moved.

It is not actually the GPS that shows this, the GPS simply provides you with an exact location when markers are not enabled, it all depends on the server settings as some have markers enabled and some do not.

As for putting a marker on the map, you can shift-click to set a waypoint, as for map markers; everyone in the server has access to command chat etc. so putting a marker down is not always safe. Your best bet is to write down the co-ordinates on a piece of paper.

my friend was getting orange markers on his GPS, we had no idea what that meant. Sometimes it felt like it was one of our group but the icon wouldn't always be in the right place...

Edit: just seen the post above

My question is:

My 2nd question is:

You Played on a Regular (Rookie) Server

Orange are NPC´s.

You Trigger them by youreself with Mouse over when they are in the Direktion youre Looking, even when they are behind Bushes or trees and you cant see them self.

They Fade away on the Map cause it shows only the last Position and Direktion where you spottet them.

The Mapmarkers can be seen by Everyone who have a Map or GPS! Doubbleclick on the Map to Generate one.You can simple type in what you want and whis Mouseover the Marker + Delete it will Deleted.I think you can only Delete youre Own Markers.

I think it shows the these icons indicate other directions containing relevant information. Avoid obstacles it makes the GPS system unreliable.
