Xiroth 191 Posted July 23, 2012 There's something oddly satisfying about killing people in this game... When I first started playing my friends advised me to kill anyone I see because they would more than likely want to kill me and take my stuff. Sure enough I did, and I've been shot and killed my fair share of times too... Until now.Maybe its the fact that the game revolves around perma death and knowing that the person you've just killed has lost everything they've worked hard to get (or stolen off someone else?). But murder is by far the most entertaining part of this game. I have all the gear I need to survive, and can live off the land so I never need to go into town any more, so now I move from town to town, observe from a distance and kill anyone I see. Most of the time people have nothing I want, I just kill them for "sport" I guess. I travel in a group, I don't back down from firefights nor log out. I've been shot, and on the brink of death but was rescued by my group. I'm careful and always have someone covering me and I scour my location before setting up to kill people. Sometimes I set up in random spots and counter snipe, snipers. Other times ill see someone running along the coast unarmed. I'll use them as target practice, they probably have nothing to lose anyways. Other times ill snipe people getting supplies from super markets. My favourite moment would have to be a close range gunfight where it was 3v1 and I killed all 3. My partner was shot and I managed to kill the others and save his life before he bled out. I killed the first 2 with my MK48 without them even seeing me, however the last guy saw me just as I saw him, and we had an epic duel in the forrest. We both ducked behind trees and took potshots zipping in and out of cover, there were bullets hitting around me everywhere and hitting the tree I was behind. I took a risk and didn't duck behind cover after a few bursts and when he popped out I hit him with a round in the shoulder. I saw him fall over and I sprinted the 20m to him and put a burst in his chest and a few in the face for good measure. I then turned around and sprinted to my friend who was luckily only hit with small arms which knocked him out on about 6k blood. I saved him with 1k to spare. My heart was racing....I'm up to 34 murders this life so far, and I'm aiming for 50.Is anyone else as heartless as I am?

TheBlackJim 32 Posted July 23, 2012 I will kill people if I want their stuff, but I'm not heartless. I will give new players food and help, and I will only kill if I know they have good stuff.

lugaru 103 Posted July 23, 2012 Honestly I think it is healthier than how neurotic I get about shooting players. I felt bad for a while after axing a sniper who turned out to have no ammo and was just lying on a roof (getting a tan?). The other day I shoot near a guys feet who typed "friendly, just respanwed" and for half an hour I was thinking "aww man, I just almost killed a freshly spanwed guy".I think bandits are evil, but at least they are less stressed than I am. SkilzZ 23 Posted July 23, 2012 Im pretty much a friendly person.i dont kill players who running below the coast with no weapons or something.sometimes when i see a guy running with 1-10 zombies in his back i try to kill the zombies and save his life.but when someone is shoting other players or try to shot me, i kill them, but not for the gear... Only for save the other players life and mine to.i dont need the best gear, just give me a sniper (cz, dmr, barrett doesnt matter) and some ammo for them, and i will kill the guy :D~ Lone wolves lives longer ! Festral 11 Posted July 23, 2012 To be honest 34 murders is absolutely applause-able. I am similar in terms of killing and kill when the opportunity sits in front of me. Sometimes I can be a little inpatient and miss a few shots but I guess that's half the thrill!

I'll report back here with murder count updates until my death, and how I was killed etc.I find the biggest rush now is being seen / shot at. You get this immense feeling in your gut of impending doom and just think "oh shit, am I about to die?". Firefights seem to activate my "flight or fight" reflex though, and I fight to the death and remain calm whilst doing so. It's only afterwards I begin to think "holy crap that was close" or "that could have been a lot worse" if you know what I mean.

Anyway, I must get back to me game! ^_^Keep on updating and I will look forward to reading them! Edited July 24, 2012 by Festral
federik21 42 Posted July 24, 2012 im not heartless, i killed an unarmed guy that was screaming for morphine in side chat since one hour and had almost reached elektro prone.I gave him a rest. There was an huey with another guy on the machinegun on the roof of the hospital that was shooting on sight.
himmu03212 31 Posted July 24, 2012 Like everyone else i became sick of dying because everyone is playing Day Z like an PVP only game. And then i realized that being a hunter of humans, makes much more fun, than of zombies or good loot. Thats why i used my ArmA veteran skills to snipe other players. But i dont just snipe noobs without guns. Im around the airport and i like them good stuff in thier hands.I noticed that this makes me really enjoy the game. Hunting humans, watching them through my scope, planing to kill them, when they do thier next step. Seeing them scared as hell, shooting around.I shot one guy in the leg, just to see him eaten by the zombies from 500 m distance. I wounded another guy, and tracked him down. Until he bleed to death. And thats why im heartless, i did not do it for thier stuff, i did do it to hunt them. Zombies are boring and stupid, i killed 620 in my current life. But i most enjoyed my 12 human kills.I love to watch them, while im sitting in tall grass, invisible for the most people because of my ghillie suit. Some i killed to protect my group, but most of them i killed, because i wanted to, i had the option to stay hidden, to avoid a fight, but i always picked to kill these unkowing people, waiting for the perfect shot, then pulling the trigger.Through my killings i found all the stuff which i wanted as one of the good survivors, but i turned into an bloody bandit, because people made me to. Thats why im really heartless, i dont care who im aiming on, if he has a gun, he needs to be killed. Because he is a threat to me, or could become one.I also robbed a lot of camps and killed one of the defenders there. He came up, tried to kill my friend which was pulling out stuff out of thier tents. (He knew we were coming, because we killed all of his friends which tried to get to the next city).Something told me it wasnt save there, so i prefed to stay hidden in the grass and then i saw him coming, sneaking behind my friend saw him aiming on him.And i dont feel sorry for him, or his group, not a single second, because its "kill or be killed". This time, i was faster again, thats why im still living. Thats the only reason i need to kill.
BravoDown 5 Posted July 24, 2012 Wow dude you would make a great mass murderer! The way you talk in your story is crazy, kudos to you tho..Cold blooded killer, I know how you feel tho, served in the army 6 years, have 2 tours in afghanistan under my belt. At first it dawned on your mind and you wonder why you did it and think should I have given them a chance? But after seeing your battle buddies get hit and shit hits the fan believe that goes out the window fast and after a while it becomes a adrenaline rush to be in a fire fight...Call us crazy but hell war is what men do.
himmu03212 31 Posted July 24, 2012 Yea i know what you mean, first its the will to protect your own people and yourself, but then it becomes something like a sport. Which you do because of the adrenaline. Im always feel very serious and concentrated when im about to kill from around 500 m. But when the shots are fired im laughing about the people who did not see it coming and struggled to survive until their bitter end.Once i saw two people running over a wide open area to the woods. I saw them through my scope, there were zombies behind them. One of them were already bleeding. They arived the edge of the wood. One of them were out of my field of view, but the bleeding guy were patching him self up on the edge. I took a deep breath and shot him right in his head. His friend didnt realized what happend to him. And he didnt know from where i fired my single shot. I waited 10 min. smiling, waiting for his friend. I knew he would come back for his corpse. And then is saw him sneaking to the dead body. I fired again, this time he just was stuned, i came closer to him, fired 2 shots in his head from 2 meters. I buried them and knew by thier names that they were my countrymen, could i have talked to them? But i prefered to kill them just because of thier possible good stuff. This behaviour was burned into me by others. My group was trying to find good stuff by looting houses. But we found out, that dead bodys drop the best things and we really enjoy making players into dead bodys because of that.Im honest, people dont want to talk if they know that they can dominate.

Xiroth 191 Posted July 24, 2012 Tonight was a little slow, but paitence paid off and I ended up with a few extra kills to my tally. My group met up, discussed the game plan, and headed out hunting for the night. We started near Cherno tonight as we were moving west along the coast the night before, so I found myself a nice spot on a random bush / hill near by and watched over them as they raided all the cafe's looking for ghile suits. We then decided to split up, and i headed west towards Elektro with my trusty spotter. Along the way I spotted someone running along the train lines and ended their life with a quick round to the chest from 500m or so, this was an easy kill as they were just about running directly towards me.We then scaled the hill inbetween the two cities where we sat for 20 minutes or so. There I saw a duo running past the lighthouse towards Cherno perpendicular to me, one of which was quite geared, I could see an AS50 on his back. I zeroe'd my gun, fired a shot, missed by a fraction, adjusted quickly and fired off a second round before he would have even heard the first, hitting him in the neck resulting in a splash of glorious red mist B) Like a bee to honey his companion immediately ran to his downed comrade's corpse to loot as he was most likely being screamed at to "get my gear!" I imagine. Like taking candy from a baby, I ended his life too.We then continued on towards Elektro where we found another random spot with a reasonably good view of the city (I think part of my survival success is i'll rarely use the same spot more than once, and my spotter never sits next to me. Always sits a bit away so he has a better view of my surroundings.)... There were two people inside the supermarket that i caught a glimpse of as they moved around inside. I waited till the door re-opened and put a bullet right through the guys chest. His friend closed the doors and ran into a back room and sat there which gave me time to line up a shot through the window, killing him shortly after. The gunfire spooked some guy I didn't see who was hiding nearby in a bush, and he got up and bolted. I put a round through his back as he vaulted over a fence.I decided we've made enough noise and went back to meet up with the others. We ran over the same hill again inbetween the cities where i stopped briefely and scanned the surrounds (oh yeah, we always travel via trees/forrests, never EVER out in the open unless you have absolutely no choice... its suicidal!). This was the greatest moment of the night. As I was scanning, some poor unfortunate sod spawned smack bang right in the middle of my crosshairs. I couldn't believe my luck! The guy was dead before he even completed spawning....The others had some luck in Cherno and got involved in a few minor gunfights with no casualties on our side. No ghile suits unfortunately, but they grabbed some additional medical supplies while they were in the vacinity. My total count now is 40 murders, with 1 bandit kill. Seems there aren't as many bandits out there as I thought....
BravoDown 5 Posted July 24, 2012 (edited) Eh you like your prey from a distance. I'm different kinda hunter...i stalk and follow studying thier every move...you be amazed by how alot of people act the same. Sometimes I will follow 1 person for miles. Followed this one guy from chern to stary. He found some nice shit in stary, I'm like thank you friend. I crouch run up to like 10-15 ft from him 2 to the chest 1 to the head. Ended his pain and suffering while filling a void in my cold cold heart ;) Edited July 24, 2012 by BravoDown
Xiroth 191 Posted July 24, 2012 I won't lie, I take pride in my long distance kills! I enjoy the challenge of hitting a moving target at 600m +. You have to predict your targets movements, watch their actions and pick the right time to take your shot. Longest shot I've made was a little over 1000m, hit them straight in the neck when they went to vault over a fence and were heading away from me. Missing a shot can mean they log off, or start running sporadically making them very hard to hit at range. I find you usually have time to make corrections and fire a second aimed shot before they realise they've been shot at. Depending on distance, and how on "edge" they are, from the moment you first shoot you can have anywhere between 3-5 seconds before they realise what's going on.For example, at 600m it takes the sound of the gunshot a good 1.5s to reach them, then a 1.5s reaction time for them to process and react to this (2.5s if they are in a relaxed state). I work with road planning you see, and have to factor things such as sight distance ands speed / reaction times to calculate braking distances and use this to design roads for minimal accident risk.... Who would've thought I could apply those skills in a game! There are many other factors too but too many to list here. All this being said, I've had my fair share of close combat gun fights too. They are just as fun and a lot more intense, really get your heart racing!
BravoDown 5 Posted July 24, 2012 I understand where coming from and I respect that. It is no easy task to hit a 6ft man moving at 5 mph from 600m +. This game doesnt give you windage and elevation knobs. So after while you learn where to lead and wether to wound or kill. Snipers will do that shoot to injure to lure his buddies out. We as humans are hardwired to either have extreme Passion and guilt or your heart is cold. Either way we all die and I rather die seeing the man doing it and vise versa. EvoX (DayZ) 5 Posted July 24, 2012 Fresh spawned survivors are the worst. They are the ones who can't be trusted, or atleast 90% of them can't be trusted. They have nothing to lose.. on the other hand, they have a lot to win if they kill a well equiped survivor.
