ratfever 27 Posted July 23, 2012 I know many will say the enfield for sheer power. Though, it's audibility is a rather great disadvantage, and slow fire rate. While the winchester is faster, and quieter, it is much less powerful. I've actually had alot of fun with the winchester. Ammunition for both is rather common, moreso for the enfield. What are your opinions on these weapons? Which do you prefer?

elazard 1 Posted July 23, 2012 Winchy all the way, bigger mag, less noise.
ninjaholic 116 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) They call the Lee Enfield the "dinner bell" for a reason. I'd personal say Winchester for dealing with undead every time, but that's because I seem to find Winchester ammo anywhere I turn. I'm sure ammo availability and accessibility dictates preferred method for dealing with the dribbler masses. I'm sure someone's going to say axe at some point.EDIT: Barronism, thanks for that link man, that's awesome. Edited July 23, 2012 by ninjaholic
Chicago Zed 2 Posted July 23, 2012 Here's the the thing. Engagements generally come down to who sees who first, and two quick Winchester rounds is enough to down a person. So I guess it really depends, are you hunting people or just trying to survive? If it's survival Id go Winnie, if you're trying to pick people off at a distance go Enfield. craft (DayZ) 51 Posted July 23, 2012 I'm sure someone's going to say axe at some point.. Axe at some point.
Alopex 46 Posted July 23, 2012 If the choice is between those two? The Winchester, most certainly. audibility has a massive impact on your survival, so having a weapon the doesn't attract half the zombies in the region is preferable. That said, within most zombie-populated environments, use of one's side arm is often the best option unless another player is encountered. All the same, I generally only hold on to either of those two weapons until I can get my hands on military-grade hardware, which doesn't usually take very long. P5ykoOHD 63 Posted July 23, 2012 PVP: Lee Enfield"Survival": Winchester 1866Nuff said.
opticalshadow 27 Posted July 23, 2012 einsfield.i generally have very few zombie encounters, i like to sneak, and when i do, i use a 1911 anyways (or revolver, both common)when pvp comes my way, i can drop a person in one or two einfield shots, its great for long distence. sound isnt that big a deal honestly. Tex Willer 47 Posted July 23, 2012 I like the Winchester because it is really quiet and has 15 rounds to shoot.
euryale 72 Posted July 23, 2012 Agreed with top poster: if you want to chase player, go for the dinner bell (400m zeroing, one hit is what you need most of the time). If you want to hunt zeds, go for the winchester (bigger mags, less noise)
Ezekiel_2517 6 Posted July 23, 2012 Sound really is a big deal. As said above, winning in PvP usually comes down to whoever sees the other first. If you go ringing the dinner bell, it aint just zeds that are gonna come running, every player within a mile is gonna get a good fix on your location.Unless Im in a hot zone, I have difficulty choosing an enfield over an axe, but if your smart you'll have time to switch back to the axe for zeds. Sticker704 121 Posted July 23, 2012 Winchester. You fire that Enfield in a town. You will die :)
Ankhenaten 111 Posted July 23, 2012 Winchester. You fire that Enfield in a town. You will die :)I did when I didn't know about audible range, a couple of times. On the other hand I nearly died to a bandit I ran into accidentally with a Winchester, I shot first but because the thing didn't take her down instantly, I got shot too. Only the second one took her out. Buddy had to blood bag me. One shot kill weapons are the deal.
P5ykoOHD 63 Posted July 23, 2012 Winchester. You fire that Enfield in a town. You will die :)You fire any Primary Weapon in town, then you are doing it wrong ...Unless you are in PVP, shooting at other players, then in that case, you are doing it "like a boss".PS:Tickling the LEE in town does not mean you are necessarly a dead man walking. Ankhenaten 111 Posted July 23, 2012 I would be a cross bow man if you could actually retrieve the bolt from zeds. But seemingly they are always under the zeds. :|
ZlobaRUS54 441 Posted July 23, 2012 Lee, it's one of the best weapons in game, period. Great iron sights, bullets fly straight to 600m as if it was a railgun. For zeds even makarov works great.
NinjaJake 22 Posted July 23, 2012 You shouldn't be using your primary to deal with zombies. The 1911 is a one shot most of the time on zeds. That being said, with the 'audibility in buildings' fix, the lee enfield doesn't aggro many if any zombies from outside if fired inside, in my experience.Go with the Lee Enfield, I've bested many people using assault rifles with it because of its one hit kill ability. dannyboy92 (DayZ) 36 Posted July 23, 2012 I'd say enfield and a m1911/revolver for zeds. Easy choise.
Ankhenaten 111 Posted July 23, 2012 https://sites.google...ndaele/weaponryBritish soldiers used arguably the best rifle available during WWI, the Lee-Enfield rifle. It had a 10 cartridge magazine, far greater than any other rifle and was suited to rapid fire unlike the German rifle; The Mauser. The fields of Flanders are full of people that met the Lee Enfield.
