Disconnecting goes sleeping

the sleep logout wouldn't be required, and there could be a message saying the consequences of sleep logout. make people think twice about sleep logout in the woods, or in the middle of cherno dont ya think? there would also be a lot less noob bodies laying around.

with the sleep logout, you would have to log back into the same server. so that would also discourage a lot of careless sleep logouts.

Doesn't that eliminate the (retarded) point of the feature then? Noone would ever choose sleep logout because it's exactly that; retarded.

You realize the game world is only 225 sq kilometers right. There will be disconnected people everywhere, and people WILL stumble across you constantly no matter where you hide. The Arma 2 map is big, but even if this feature wasn't totally fucking retarded it's waaaay to small for a feature like this.

Edit: Shark, same thing I said about bodies. There would be underground bases literally everywhere, there's too many players and the world is waaay too small.

also, im pretty sure rocket and his team thought about this.

first, your base would be on one server. non transferrable. so again with the careful thinking.

second, the world is not too small for a player sized trap door. mind you the underground base WILL not be easily made. so its not like every noob and his/her mother is going to make a base.

third, someone earlier in the thread said that coding could clear up a lot of the memory/resource issues.

im pretty sure that people with security and the underground bases that are hard to get into would probably choose this method if they got a bonus for it. like i already said. Dont automatically say that something is retarted because you don't agree with it. there are plenty of good reasons for the sleep logout.

What are you supposed to do if a server owner stops paying for it or decides to shut the server down?

I like the idea.

But theres a few things im concerned with:

-I'm 21 years old myself and this is a non-issue for myself, but i like to think of others:

Mommy is in a full-blown rage and orders 16 year old jack, off (EDIT: jesus christ, this is why commas are important people) the pc or there'll be hell to pay: He is now sleeping in the middle of a military tent in stary sobor. AKA dead.

- How will you handle a dc? IP refresh happends to every normal user, router resets aswell. power outages ect.. Means you're dead aswell?

Oh, make this into an exception you say?, fine il shortcut my NIC to turn off and i'll still be able to dc mid fight.

My suggestion: Lower both timers to 10-20 sec, depending on where u log in/out

P.S: stop hating on OP, it's a suggestion thread, granted, its not a perfect suggestion, but at least its ONE approach to this common problem

My friend was playing minecraft and he said that he was going to sleep, I was in DayZ and thought "why not?".

So here it is : Players when disconnect should :

-Equip a heating blanket so they don't get cold when night arrives

-Choose a safe location to disconnect to not get killed/looted, his body will keep for 5-10 minutes in the disconnected area.

-When connected to another server, will take about 3-5 minutes to wake up, but if a loud noise (3 -4 bars of noise) is made, the player automatically wake up

Benefits

-Add more realism/intense to the game

-PvP disconnects would be way less eficient, because they would go to sleep in front of the player that is trying to kill, and the body sleeping would keep in the server until joined another.

-Ghosting should be less efficient, player should take 3 - 5 minutes to wake up depending if he used or not the heating blanket and if he is inside a building ( inside a building should add +2 minutes to wake up, if blanket being used -1 minute to wake up)
