Disconnecting goes sleeping

Recommended Posts

My friend was playing minecraft and he said that he was going to sleep, I was in DayZ and thought "why not?".

So here it is : Players when disconnect should :

-Equip a heating blanket so they don't get cold when night arrives

-Choose a safe location to disconnect to not get killed/looted, his body will keep for 5-10 minutes in the disconnected area.

-When connected to another server, will take about 3-5 minutes to wake up, but if a loud noise (3 -4 bars of noise) is made, the player automatically wake up

Benefits

-Add more realism/intense to the game

-PvP disconnects would be way less eficient, because they would go to sleep in front of the player that is trying to kill, and the body sleeping would keep in the server until joined another.

-Ghosting should be less efficient, player should take 3 - 5 minutes to wake up depending if he used or not the heating blanket and if he is inside a building ( inside a building should add +2 minutes to wake up, if blanket being used -1 minute to wake up)

Edited for balancing

Feel free to discuss this suggestion and try to make it even better!

Peace!

It just wouldnt work. What if a server has 1000 visitors every day? can you imagine the amount of survivors just lying down in a blanket in the middle of cherno? Also, the load on the server would be unecessary

Are you suggesting that players bodies would never be void of being attacked/killed even when they're offline, i.e. their bodies never disappear from the world?

Do you realize how cheap and unfair that will be? I don't care where you choose to stop for the night, someone will find you and loot your corpse.

I just posted about being killed when you spawn in before you get control of your player, and can't even see or hear anything around you. This would be that multiplied by the entire time you're not playing. The last thing we need are lifeless morons who play this game, to stay on it 24/7 and have deaths as a result of lack of sleep and exhaustion like we see in Korea and Japan. All because they didn't want to lose some meaningless virtual items. No.

I agree that PvP disconnects are cheap but what happens when someone's internet/power goes out? They're screwed is what happens.

Even in Minecraft, your body does not remain on the server unless you are on it. Plus this is not Minecraft.

I seriously think it's not the CoD kiddies that will ruin this mod, but the Minecraft kiddies that learned about it from *insert name here popular youtube videogame let's player*.

First : I didnt say that this is minecraft

Second : I know that some people might get fucked up, life it's not fair, but this is actually for the good of everyone, people will avoid sleeping in common places making them explore the map, leaving Cherno / Elektro out of "noobs/pvp" center.

This isn't life, this is DayZ. Get it out of your mind that this is real life, it's realistic fiction.

If any game was actually like real life, do you think anyone would play it?

No.

In addition to this, you'd have 700k people on spread throughout the servers asleep. You'd constantly be finding sleeping people. How is that at ALL realistic? Not to mention, it'd overload all the servers from people being on it. Add in the fact that all the servers would have to constantly communicate to see if someone logged in on another server so that the sleeping body can despawn. Also, when you sleep in real life, if something comes to kill you, you wake up. You can't do that if you're out and about doing stuff in life and arn't on the computer 24/7.

I dorealize that this is not real life, but this game is trying to achieve the max reality it could while the scenario being a pos-apocalyptical world

This game is trying to achieve being balanced and fun while maintaining an element of fear and suspense.

It is not trying to be uber ultra realistic.

No, people wouldnt need to be connected 24/7, their body would keep there, they will need only is : choose a good location to sleep, ratherthan inside a city, plusIf something stealthly comes to kill you, no, you wont wake up

You realize every object that isn't a part of the world (Static buildings) takes up server processing power and memory, right? Hell even buildings do. This is literally the worst suggestion I've ever heard, and I really hope you're a troll and not just a fucking idiot.

i was actually thinking a lot about this too, its a great idea. however, people need more security if they're going to have to do that when they log out. I feel like i keep on saying this, but i heard that rocket was going to try to give players the tools to make underground areas. so let him do that first, and then when people log out, they will have a place to do so. Guys please be more open minded, and try to find some common ground.

also, the underground areas are supposed to be instanced, so goodbye to the server/resources problem.

also, let them make locks and things so that you have another way to protect yourself.. maybe lock a house shut and fool players into thinkings its a non enter-able.

there are lots of ways to fix the lack of security issue.

also, give a benefit to the sleep. make a sleep meter, or give a benefit where wounds heal faster, or food wont diminish as quickly when you got to a sleep logout rather than a reg logout.

you can also make sleep logout a non-requirement. to give people a choice.

If we're going with realism, then somehow your character would be able to wake up if it hears footsteps or gunfire. But I honestly doubt you've thought of that in your suggestion.

That is why this is not a good idea, aside from the fact that your character is ALWAYS in the world and can ALWAYS be attacked and killed while you have absolutely no way of stopping or apprehending them.

There are a lot of coding that could solve the problem of a high memory demand

Shark even if they're instanced, they're still somewhere on the server and take up memory, and in addition to that, where do the people without underground bases go? And if everyone does have a secret underground base noone can get to, what's the point of this feature anyway, since noone will ever find you?

Yep, must agree with you, I've actually thought about that but anyways

Or we could implement another thing:

The player body stays only for 5-10 minutes after disconnect

And takes 3-5 minutes to wake up if he is using blanket and stuff, but if a loud noise is made, he automatically wake up

I don't know about you, but waiting 5 minutes after I log into the game to play would be ridiculous. Especially when every other server I join is either A. Super laggy and in need of a restart and/or B. So dark I can't see anything. Not to mention, logging in would be like waking up, I don't take 5 minutes to be able to get up after I wake up.

in either case, your character is going to be standing around doing nothing, defenseless.

I mean what are you going to suggest next, the server sends a message to your computer, launches DayZ, and joins the server so if you happen to be home at the time, you can fight back?

This is just absolutely ridiculous.

Nope, that you just take care where you just disconnect

My friend was playing minecraft and he said that he was going to sleep, I was in DayZ and thought "why not?".

So here it is : Players when disconnect should :

-Equip a heating blanket so they don't get cold when night arrives

-Choose a safe location to disconnect to not get killed/looted, his body will keep for 5-10 minutes in the disconnected area.

-When connected to another server, will take about 3-5 minutes to wake up, but if a loud noise (3 -4 bars of noise) is made, the player automatically wake up

-If connected to a server, you can disconnect without needing to sleep within 5 minutes ( people complaining about night servers)

Benefits

-Add more realism/intense to the game

-PvP disconnects would be way less eficient, because they would go to sleep in front of the player that is trying to kill, and the body sleeping would keep in the server until joined another.

-Ghosting should be less efficient, player should take 3 - 5 minutes to wake up depending if he used or not the heating blanket and if he is inside a building ( inside a building should add +2 minutes to wake up, if blanket being used -1 minute to wake up)

underground bases are just a way to add more realism. you would have a home, a place to put things, a place to sleep. shelter. possibly a hq for your friends. its safer than a tent, if the entrance is a trap door sort of deal. Im also not saying that no one will ever find you. if someone does find your base. it would be highly rewarding, just like finding someone's tent. you can shoot the lock to their trap door, or whatever. steal all their loot. and kill the person. or not. leave them to deal with it. You can set traps around the door and use it as bait. So many possibilities with the underground area. Now with the sleep. im not saying that it should be required im saying that it could be an alternative for people who have security. There would be a bonus, because you were able to sleep better.

You realize the game world is only 225 sq kilometers right. There will be disconnected people everywhere, and people WILL stumble across you constantly no matter where you hide. The Arma 2 map is big, but even if this feature wasn't totally fucking retarded it's waaaay to small for a feature like this.

Edit: Shark, same thing I said about bodies. There would be underground bases literally everywhere, there's too many players and the world is waaay too small.

True, I think this feature should be thought only when underground bases are in the game.

the sleep logout wouldn't be required, and there could be a message saying the consequences of sleep logout. make people think twice about sleep logout in the woods, or in the middle of cherno dont ya think? there would also be a lot less noob bodies laying around.

with the sleep logout, you would have to log back into the same server. so that would also discourage a lot of careless sleep logouts.
