Item tracking system

Recommended Posts

1klsi.png

Above is a concept I created based on the TF2 Outpost item tracking interface.

I have wondered where a particular item I have has gone to once I've died. This suggested interface would gather data from the DayZ servers, obviously a delay would be necessary so you can't have accurate info on who currently has it (and subsequently go and find them, and kill them for it), but it'd give you somewhat of a history and tell you if someone else is still running around with a pack/rifle/can of beans/etc that you dropped or were killed for. This would also tell you if the item was wiped, despawned, or etc.

Any thoughts?

That's just fucken stupid. That's the equivalent of having a GPS installed in EVERY ITEM IN THE GAME. Oh, you picked up those road flares? I held those once, so now I know who you are and where you were X hours ago. Oh look, you seem to spend a lot of time up in a particular spot in those hills. Hidden base much?

To quote myself since you obviously can't read for shit.

I'm having trouble finding a respectful way to tell you how pointless and irrelevant this idea is. What purpose does this serve? What functional reason for it existing that would improve gameplay could make this get development time?

Please use the suggestions forum seriously.

Yeah, but if I logged out at my base seven hours ago, the person tracking me can still see where my base is seven hours later. It doesn't matter how much of a delay there is, you wouldn't have to look at the data long to see the GPS'ed road flares moving back and forth to the same place or hey, how about this crazy thought: what if they actually LEFT THAT ITEM AT THEIR BASE.

Stupid idea.

It could be a neat feature, but I think it should only log people who "Carve" their name into the stock of a gun, or write their name on a backpack, ect, so that if you don't want your item attributed to you, it isn't. Not really a priority feature though.

What purpose does playing a game serve? entertainment. This to be would be amusing to see where your loot has gone to.

Serious suggestions? Please, get off your goddamn high horse, this is a video game, not cancer research.

It was a suggestion, no need to be such a dick about it. It was a loose suggestion at that. It would only outline general areas like you see when you spawn in. If someone has a base in the wilderness, it would come up and say wilderness. You act like it'd give the GPS coordinates of the item so you could go to it on the map.

Seriously, calm the fuck down and realize how irrational you sound.

That sure was a constructive post.

Never played CoD in my life.

Also I just explained it wasn't a GPS to every item in the game. L2read.

If I told you I was in Stary Sobor on XYZ server, do you know exactly where I am?

>realistic game

>find out where items have gone one you drop/lose them

Ok, Google.

realistic fiction =/= actual life.

This would not really benefit the game, and its DayZ so i wouldn't really be interested where my box of matches would have gone to after i was killed somewhere. And as everything in this world, as good natured you intend it to be, someone will come along and exploit it for evil somehow.

No, it wouldn't be amusing. It would be a complete waste of time for absolutely no benefit. It's like writing for film - if a line of dialogue doesn't further the plot in any way then it shouldn't be there.

So, yes make a serious suggestion that would make for actual benefit to the gameplay and people will debate its relative merits.

- What is the gameplay effect for this?

- How will it affect players state of mind / emotions?

- How will it influence other aspects of the game?

These are the questions you should be asking yourself. If you can't use it to track down your old stuff, then A) who will use it, B) to what end, and C) what function of real life is this mirroring? The game doesn't need to be realistic but it should at least have plausible elements. This serves no purpose. Can you not even understand why people think this is silly? People are busy madly coding in equipment behaviour and major gameplay elements and you're suggesting things that serve no purpose. That annoys people. Accept that and let it go.
