Moral values and Dayz - A Discussion

Recommended Posts

... What are you talking about?

People don't choose scenario A because, firstly, killing other people is fun in the game. Secondly, people shoot on sight because they want to either keep their own loot as they can't be bothered/don't want to get back their gear or they just want the other person's gear. It doesn't go much further than that.

Plus all you've done is make up a bullshit scoring system for the three scenarios in order to back up your little theory.

You got me wrong. I am not trying to convince people that I am right, I just want to collect opinions.

I've seen too many attempts on this forum, using poor psychology /sociology, to call people who shoot them 'psychos'.

That's basically the opposite of what I want to achive with this. I want to understand, not find a lazy label.

Either way, the amount of pretentious posts on this forum is overwhelming. Admittedly, yours isn't as bad as others I've seen but I'm actually getting irritated by the amount of these kinds of posts there are. The reasons I mentioned for people shooting on sight is basically all it comes down to.

And the scoring system is still bullshit since it's completely subjective of what is beneficial to oneself and what isn't.

This pretty much. Please stop looking so far into things.

Clearly, it seems the people of this forum don't exactly seem to like to have intellectual debates. That might be the root of most of our problems in this testing stage...

I mean, hell, I don't exactly agree with OP. But I'm at least not enough of an ass to tell him he's looking to far into it. Some people do have extremely contrived reasons for doing what they do. Just because he wants to possibly understand it doesn't give you guys the right to bash.

Like I said earlier, if you don't want to participate in the discussion, then just leave the topic.

There is not much to it.

In the early days of the mod, a certain type of players were attracted. It was mostly tactical sim players, explorers and survivalists. Most of them would have no issue shooting down other players, but it wasn't their main motivation for playing the game. There were other factors deemed more interesting, like the interaction with other players and the survival aspect.

As the community grew, more and more people of a different mindset joined in. They were mostly interested in shooting other players and the thrill of the competition. At a certain time, we reached a breaking point where their number became big enough for all the other players to adapt a much more aggressive posture in order to survive.

This will not change by itself. The only way to change it is to form actual communities on the respective servers. People who know each other are far less likely to randomly engage you for kicks, unless that is socially acceptable within that community.

NO:

This game is perfect as it is.

Even rocket has stated its not.

I'm all for having a civil and in-depth discussion of how players work and how they see the world of dayz.
