matt216@email.com 22 Posted July 22, 2012 I was needing some help on how to read the server logs. I was searching the logs and found a few items on people that are not currently in dayz. I not too good at reading the logs so if someone would like to help me out that would be great. At the moment not sure how to tell if someone spawned something or if they came into the game with a item thats not allowed. Thank you and ill give you my skype info if your intrested to help me. We want our server to be as legit as possible so it helps if the admins know how to detect the cheaters better.
ArchAngel-7- 45 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) Yeah...me too. I see things that look shady...but I dont know for sure. I know someone keeps screwing with the connectivity of my server...and trying to hack my admin password. Edited July 23, 2012 by ArchAngel-7-
ArchAngel-7- 45 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) One of the biggest problems I have is starting up the server. Everyone and their brother wants to hop in as soon as it pops up in the list. At this time the server has not really started yet...and this delays the start procedure. Which makes it take forever to finally get in game. How long are we going to need these rules about not being able to lock the server, make room for yourself or friends. There are 1000s of servers now.EDIT: Its not that I want to lock people out. I dont even play with anyone in this game. But sometimes I would like to lock the server during setup to avoid 40 people jumping in at once...which lags the hell out of it. matt216@email.com 22 Posted July 23, 2012 We should atleast be able to lock the server at max cap due to ddos causing our servers to lag pretty bad. then when the server gets back down to lets say 35/40 unlock
Graz (DayZ) 146 Posted July 23, 2012 I'm in the same boat Interex.I really enjoy this game and hosted a server, mainly so my friends had a place to come into and I like the idea of not being subjected to admin shadyness. Someone who has no ability to really read code is very vulnerable to hackers and can't report any bugs properly. That issue aside, I'm am essentially unusable to a developer as I'm unable to provide them with the correct information. It's frustrating to not be able to contribute to the game in that way.Is there any way I can get a general idea of what code means?I'll do an example!!Hacker comes into serverspawns UAZ, guns and ammohacker gets into UAZ drives to somewhere, gets out, commits mayhemHacker saves his UAZ and logs out. What .log file should I be looking at and what should I be looking for?I was told that I can see where and when someone picks something up (like a spawned gun) and where/when someone saves a vehicle (like a spawned heli). ASFAIK spawned items now are removed on reset, is that the case?ANY help at all would be appreciated
matt216@email.com 22 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) On the server i host in the server.log file i can see what people come into the game with and as for what they spawn you basically have to rely on the script kiddie not knowing what he is doing and getting lucky enough to catch the script he ran like ammo.sql or crate things like that other wise all you can do is shut down the server when it gets out of handas for seeing is player 1 has spawned item b at location c i have no idea how to read that and dont think i even have those permissions Edited July 23, 2012 by Interex216
Graz (DayZ) 146 Posted July 24, 2012 The scripts.log file in the battle eye part contains some useful information. There doesn't seem to be a counter to a battle-eye bypass thought. I guess there's not much you can do but watch what a suspected hacker interacts with.
ryahn 112 Posted July 24, 2012 scripts.log and your RPT file should have everything you need to look up.
meta87 25 Posted July 24, 2012 What he is asking is WHAT exactly to look for. Most of us know where to look, but don't know what we are looking for to be begin with.In piles of text you can not look at logs and find things that are fishy, if you don't know what is and isn't fishy.
