Daddy'o (DayZ)

So I just bought my third copy of OA

Recommended Posts

Steam sale for ArmA finally hit so I ended up buying a third copy of Operation Arrowhead.

I've been dual boxing DayZ for a couple of weeks already and I initially intended the second character as a safe storage mule, but alas it ended up being my loot-town-man while other one is cower-from-vantage-camp-monkey. Now I have a third character to run around. Though I doubt I can triple box the game :D

Either this one will be my storage mule or maybe it'll end up being a cherno / elektro ass-hat hunter. I love killing them high gear asshats off the hills overlooking these cities.

I was wondering how many others do this and has anyone else gone the triple boxing way or having more than 2 characters in general?

Got any dual-box / triple-box stories to share?

So far mine are pretty uneventful, but at times I've chased out people with my runner from Stary tents out in the open and nailed em from 700 meters with the sniper.

Also, I welcome some heated discussion on the topic, as always before!

Unlike EVE, there's really nothing that requires extra characters. Make some friends ?

Edit: unless you got overly attached to your gear and wanted a scout but still..

Eve player by chance?

Not hatin but really what's the point? I get the idea of a storage mule and all tbh I would be tempted to do that myself but

trying to play two guys at once in a fps, seems more hassle than it's worth.

imo anyway.

edit> haha someone else spotted the eve-ness while I was typing.

I don't have a problem with dual boxing. It offers no more advantage than teamspeak or playing with someone sitting next to you. I used to do that with my cousin, we could rock entire squads in BF3.

In reply to questions above:

It works pretty well in my opinion. Obviously you can't like run with 2 chars at the same time, but it's pretty much perfect for over watch duty. Just alt tabbing from my looter character to my sniper character and check out the surroundings, then alt tab back.

Also the main point of having at least 2 characters is, usually, using the other character to play with your mates when they're online, and then the other for solo play when they aren't around. That's how couple of my buds run as well. I just took a bit of a leave and have been lone wolfing and 2 timing for some time.

Cool cool. I've been away for a few months again. My interest wanes and peaks up again in some sortta few month intervals. Last time played was in may, stocked up like 8 billion worth of nocxium and zydrine and now waiting for the stocks to dry up towards the winter to make a few billion isk profit on the piles. I'll be back again around when the prices sweeten up <3

Started Eve 04 - 08.

4 years was enough for me  Ended up running 4 accounts 12 chars in total .....eeek

Back on topic though , because i had that Eve mentality of multiple chars I too really wanted to get more than one copy of OA.

As it happens I never got around to it and just have the one char at mo. But certainly when DayZ goes retail i'll be looking at more than one account for sure.

Yeah I recall having 3 accounts of my own at one point back when I was still fairly noobish at 2 year mark :D Used to float 2 hulks and an orca to munch out belts all by myself in highsec. Got expensive and got boring. Played with one account for a long time after that, been dual boxing in between at times, pvp and industry toons, you know how it is :)

I have two accounts in DayZ. It's very practical to have a backup, so it was 25€ well-spent. I'm using one account to play with (usually in the south), and the other one for trades in the north.

I have 40 copies of the game and use them all on a single server thus blocking anyone else from logging on.

Seriously, it would be cheaper to spend a few hours finding some tents to stow your gear ?

You bought another copy of Combined Operations? You didn't know you could do with just buying another Operation Arrowhead? Would have saved you 10€

Been there and tried that. We had a tent city of about 15 tents between 7 people, raided, later on when you could hide tents in forests as well, we had a small camp of 5 tents, raided, then I went solo camping and made super well hidden "stash" tents around the map, within a week all raided. Camps are good but mainly just for temporary storage. Good rule of thumb with em is that they will ALWAYS be found. It's just a matter of time. Mule character negates that completely although can't store nearly as much.

But then again I've already found a better use for this third character than a storage mule. Something a lot more creative and useful for the community ;)

Because the game costs a fortune? I personally think it's well-worth it. If I didn't have two accounts, I wouldn't be able to trade effectively without travelling for hours every time I would do a trade. Not to mention it's far safer to store good gear on a character than in a tent, and it's more or less a requirement to have a solid sniper (AS50 or M107) to effectively get more good loot from players (since they'll just DC if you can't one-shot them), which I prefer over spending hours looting the barracks, helicopter crash sites and looking for camps.

I think that countless saved hours that I would otherwise have spent running across the map doing nothing are worth my 25€.

Yeah, unfortunately I didn't know of that at the time.
