yurgrandmuh 0 Posted July 22, 2012 i think tools such as the hatchet should break over time because in real life a hatchet wont live for ever. making it more realistic for survival.
WilkyWilks 44 Posted July 22, 2012 I think first we'll need to get to the point where the average person is alive for longer than an hour before we need to worry about a very common item having durability.
Disgraced 1123 Posted July 22, 2012 Intrigng in its way. Many of the firearms used in the game are extremely fragile in the field. It would be nice to see some kind of reflection of ruggedness reflected.

LockeDown 144 Posted July 22, 2012 Everything breaks over time. If you wanted full realism; your gun should fall to shit without maintainence; your flashlight shouldn't work if it gets submerged in water- the soles on your shoes should wear thin, and your clothes probably would end up in tatters.Realism is nice, and I'm not entirely against the idea- it's just where do you draw the line of realism? Why the hatchet and not guns?

Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted July 22, 2012 I made a thread a while ago about gun degredation. It worked really well in STALKER and a few other games.
DemonGroover 8836 Posted July 22, 2012 Agree - ahould be a system for all weapons. To be honest most of the weapons you find lying in barns or houses would probably be half way to being useless.
windth 5 Posted July 22, 2012 You'd have to repair and/or maintenance your weapons or go find new ones. There would be new items added to repair and/or maintenance your weaponry but could add a nice element to the game. Intense moments. Gun jams right when you need it. Then I guess you'd have to go as far as batteries for battery powered objects. Lose use of the flashlight... it flickers and then out it goes. (Maybe have a zippo to pull out to use as a small light source if that happens)Now I am trailing off. But yeah it could work to have durability to weaponry. Quaby 93 Posted July 22, 2012 An M4A1 can fire 400 ish rounds as fast as you can reload until failing. And hatches/axes take forever to break. The degradation should probably be at about 200 ingame rounds before failing, and hatchets just shouldn't ;)

fowlerd 17 Posted July 28, 2012 Maybe similar to fallout where, your gun jams for a few seconds after like 200-400 rounds have been fired through it. I personally don't think your gun should fall to pieces and require heavy maintenance just for realism, as that wouldn't happen in real life. I've fired many guns, and unless your dropping them in dirt and rocks, then running them over, and beating them with a hammer they should function pretty well aside from occasional cleanings. necroslord 73 Posted July 28, 2012 I'm not that sure about weapons. I can't state an accurate opinion there. But regarding tools I think durabilty is not a good thing. A hammer or an axe wont degrade fast enough to be very nice on a game. Maybe batteries for electronics, but other than that, I don't thnk a durability system is worth it.
