New to the game and I'm suprised!

Hi all!

I have to start with a bit of honesty, I have slagged off this game for months as I just couldn't get my head round how it could be so good, to my mate who bragged on about it and he was in love with it, I finally was persuaded to buy it (40% off steam ftw).

I started playing the game after drinking at about 1AM on teamspeak to my mate, I don't think I've screamed like a little girl as much as I did last night, I didn't have a clue where I was, no weapons and I ran through 2 little villages agroing about 15 zombies at a time.

Somehow, due to an act of God, I survived, we met up and I got a fireaxe. We then spent the next 30-40mins crawling on the floor in a town and I had no idea how the game could be so tense being on the floor.

DayZ, I hate your music so much that it makes me hit the floor in paranoia because I don't know whats going to happen next, although I did not see anyone else that night, we heard shots being fired close and the mood and atmosphere makes it feel so real...

Me and my mate were looking for a bigger bag/guns for me in Electro I think its called. And a guy walks in the supermarket and asked if my mate was friendly, he said he was, but then shot him in the head?! WTF!

Then I turn around and unload a clip into him and finish him, I've never felt guilty from a game before and I said sorry to my mate so many times, I got an ak47, map, a massive bag, compass everything I wanted, logged out and waited for my friend, I logged in and broke my arms and legs or either got shot without even moving. :(

The idea is to hit Electro/Cherno or Berezino get supplies and get the hell out of there and head north and never, ever log out in a hotspot like that, go to some woods and hide in a bush!

Ok I think I'm just sucidal, me and my mate went back into Electro, with 1 pistol and 1 shotgun with 1 bullet it, just slowly walking through and 2 surviours are running through, I hit the deck so fast, calling (left left left). My mate goes into boss mode saying we are friendlies, just move on, no one has to die, I just froze.

Games are not meant to do this to you, crazy crazy world that place is.

Does anyone have any tips to pass on?

Yep. Day Z isn't complicated... but it's cruel.

Bought Arma II on the steam sale yesterday. Played that for 2 hours to get familiarized with controls. The vanilla game... has a lot of games in one. It certainly has a few genre aspects that could have been developed independently into thier own seperate game. Very different from what I normally play, making it feel pretty complex to me...

Then I installed and loaded up Day Z...

Spent maybe 2-3 hours dying in an average of 15 mins. Then... IT happened.

I found my first weapon, a Hatchet! A useless pile of crap that caused me to lose 1/2 my blood in exchange for one zombie death. Still, I'm feeling pretty good.

THEN, I met another player... and he (voice chat) DIDN'T want to kill me. He was pretty low on blood, so we holed up in a factory to plan a hospital run. THEN, while we were planning, he succummed to his wounds and died... So, I GOT HIS STUFF!

I honored his memory by not hauling off and shooting everything in sight. I slowly crawled my way out to the wilderness. I restrained myself and only killed 2 zombies to make the trip easier. I cleverly and stealthily made my way to a farm, and murdered a for goat for its meat. I alt tabbed to find out what to do with fresh meat (making me regret throwing the "useless pile of crap" away). Then resolved to go cook the meat. Then 2 dudes ran up behind me and 2 shotted me as I began my quest for fire...

I think my current toon has 2 blood pack, 2 morphine injectors, and about 1400 blood. That toon is doomed...

One complaint, even for a game as rough as day z, having axes lodged into stumps behind houses that you CANNOT use in any way... is just sick.
