Guns from a survival point of view.

Recommended Posts

I've been noticing more and more as I play that most of all guns are rather impractical for trying to survive the zombie apocalypse. I've had plenty of opportunities to gather up a full arsenal of weapons, but I don't really have the need to ever use any of them, either out of fear of revealing my position to bandits or I just didn't want to aggro more zombies than I had to. If I'm going to infiltrate a town full of zombies, I'll just grab my axe, which you don't have to ever reload, it's quiet and won't aggro any zombies and you can get one from pretty much anywhere. The only problem with it is that if you're not careful and time your attacks right, a zombie can get a hit on you, but as long as you've got a few bandages and maybe some other medical supplies, it's not really an issue. I've played on the current character for a good 2 days now and the only time I fired a shot was an accidental discharge in Cherno that hit an unarmed dude. Of course he tried running off instantly, but I told him to stop and I bandaged him up, even gave him a blood transfusion and he lived to tell the tale.

Even if you want to have guns for defense against others... There's always murderers and bandits, but most likely someone who's just paranoid and trigger happy (which is pretty much everyone) wouldn't feel the absolute need to take out someone running a fair distance away unarmed or equipped with a melee weapon. So even having a gun on you and visible, can be a bad thing.

So I think that guns cause more problems than they solve if you're just looking to survive. So what do other people think... Are guns just spawns of evil and bringers of pestilence and suffering? Or are they powerful tools that bring a feeling of relative safety and peace of mind to their users, knowing that they can kill anything they see?

Except this game is not about zombie survival. It's about a bunch of psychopaths hunting each other on a large island with weapons and supplies dropped here and there, with angry, ugly olympic runners roaming near villages, but they pose no threat at all if you know what you're doing.

i had a char armed with just an axe and i agree with you for the noise point. sometimes it can cost you too much blood if you aggro a lot of infected or if you get cornered..showing myself unarmed or just with the axe in the north didn't save me from a bandit kill. it's always the same point in this game: how do you risk for need or just fun? i mean: if you have a military weapon you'll have to loot dangerous places to get the ammo but if you just stay in the woods i'm not sure you will enjoy the full experience of this game..wasn't fun that interaction you had with the guy you wounded and patched up later?

Make guns super rare, add more survival features, in depth character needs, then you'll have people stepping up to defend, and stepping up to terrorize. Less risk with super rare weaponry.

depends i guess from persepctive.

currently i have a DMR and a MP5SD, i use the mp5 in any town im in, so my shots dont aggro anyways. the DMR is used for over watch when my fellow friends are in a town. for zombies, i find silenced weapons very useful. axes are fine, but when the game messes up and everything in twenty KM aggros, youll be happy to have one. but generally i play full stealth, and more often then not on night servers, i have been inside and out of towns and the airfield without a single aggroed zombie or zombie killed, that what i call mission achomplished. but when it does go bad, i want to know i can handle it.

as for other players, when i was in airfield last night, or even a couple other cities, in the span of the hour i was there, i had no less then 20 server hoppers spawn into the area, now i went prone and hid, but the problem is there, these people are IMO cheating, they are hostile on sight, and i wont let my team fail.

I'm glad that i have a pretty good gun. The M4A3 CCO. Last night, me and my two friends encountered 5 survivors. They had Lee enfileds, and one of them had an AKM and one had the M16A4. Luckily, only two of us died. And then we just ran up to get our loot back.

Only reason we survived was because of our superior firepower. AS50, but my friend changed to the Mk 48. And my M4A3 CCO, and my last friends M14.

Agree with ExESGO, M9SD is the best gun in the game.

Keep your big gun for players and have a nice silenced option you can quickly switch to to kill Zombies.

i prefer a silenced gun over an axe any day, even if the ammo is almost non-existant. I believe in tactically killing zombies that are in my way so i never accidentally aggro them
