MP, Server, Lobby questions

Recommended Posts

Hi,

i'm an OFP/ArmA Veteran but new to Multiplayer. Please allow me some questions:

1) What is a good ping number, when is it bad ?

2) Let's say i'm playing on a Server and RL is calling, so i have to disconnect into the "Lobby". How long can i stay there until discoed from this Server ?

3) Are there any basic tips for optimizing my Rig / ArmA for MP ? Until now i can't complain, so it looks good for me.

Your comments are appreciated.

Cheers,

gam

1. I'd say like in every other FPS. You should look for servers with <100 ping.

2. If the server is using BEC you can stay up to 180 seconds in the lobby, if I'm correct. Otherwise you could stay as long as you want to.

3. Try this and this.

Ok, so here we go.

I'd suggest to play the game before tweaking it. If it runs smoothly and you like the look, just leave it at that. But be sure to check out the big cities because your frames will drop there the most.

I don't know about how 'veteran' you are at Arma 2, so I'll just leave some tips I learned while playing DayZ.

For the multiplayer part I recommend to disable 'Postprocess effects' and 'Shadow detail'. Otherwise you might have trouble detecting hostiles far away or players with ghillie suits hiding in the forest.

Set 'Terrain detail' at least to 'High' if you want to use sniper rifles. Terran detail won't affect close combat that much but on longer distances enemies' feet might glitch into the ground and you will miss-calculate the range if you use the scopes' mildot-system.

Set 'Objects detail' at least to 'Normal' so you'll still be able to see through windows and stuff when you're far away from buildings looking through binoculars/sniper scope.

Max. visibility in DayZ is forced to 1600.

Ok, so here is something more:

As for your player profile, use a black guy. White faces won't hide that good in green forests, will they?

Change Game options/Blood to 'High' so you can clearly see if you hit someone.

If you have a microphone and you really want to get in contact with other players I recommend to set VON/Microphone to max.

Turn the music off! :P

Oh.. and don't forget the only rule in DayZ: Do not trust anyone!
