Yea, that won't work. People will just camp it and snipe everyone.

The people camping it, don't even deserve to be called human if they are just there to ruin people's day.

I hope they make safe zones, so I can camp them with my M249.

That's right, not even a sniper rifle, just 200 rounds of 'fuck you' to the dipshits that want easy mode.

There shouldn't be any safezone that is protected by the games mechanics, if players on a server want a safezone they should have the community make and keep it safe.

Very VERY little should be controlled with automated systems in the game, it should be about players make their server the one they want. We should have to have a seperate character for every server that way the communities will flourish.

Not necessarily safe areas, having so few villages it'd just make it bandit hell and half the fun is how tense the game is when coming across another player and observing to see if you can figure out if they're a bandit or survivor. I think the problem at the minute is its easy to be a bandit and it's hard to trust people. I'd like for there be a way to encourage player co-operation but I think artificially forcing safe zones isn't the way.

I do however think they're should be specific log out zones that occur frequently enough that means both people can easily reach one and make it harder for bandits to predictably camp out, I think this would help with the alt-f4 and the ghosting issue that people exploit. You could even have it so you can still log out anywhere but it leaves your character sitting there vulnerable for another 2 minutes.

Just my thoughts.

How about you make your own safe zone? Take you and all your friends, and you claim a town as your own, and kill any hostiles that try to enter.

The day this game gets safe zones and bandit skins and resuscitation is the day i stop playing. I have had enough of the standard mmo, I want one that bends me over and tells me I've been a very bad boy.

Rather than disabling PvP in a zone, why not simply give players more options to fortify and defend an area where they want to establish CO-OP, trade, etc...?

It would be more exciting, more worth it. And, the safe zone could be attacked, which would lead to interesting gameplay.

The problems right now with this are

- everybody looks exactly the same, cannot be identified or told apart from others,

- you cannot put up signs etc.

- most buildings or areas which would realistically make a nice fortification are very prone to server-hopping inside of it.

- since it is a deathmatch game, nobody would ever assume there is a fort there, there is no real way to communicat it without radio, so you have to announce it in forums, which will inevitably attract lots of hackers/exploiters/griefers other random people who are bored with the game and only there to mess around.

Global* chat is immersion breaking and not helping.

The problem is that people cannot be identified and told apart. You cannot find and punish a murderer as you can in real life, so there is no risk in harming others in this game -> deathmatch.

Just look at how people behave on anonymous internet forums .. same thing.

Also, 3rd party organized grouping is not the same as ingame cooperative play in this gameworld. Its a complete different thing. Skype buddies have no authentic reason to cooperate within the game-world. Their mutual agreement of cooperation is not forged in the game world but outside of it, completely indifferent from whatever happens in the game world. It is simply immersion breaking as fuck and completely static. People who suggest you should find skype buddies to get friendly play (and the depth that it brings such as trust, betrayal, doubt) don't even know what they are talking about.

Also, in a real apocalypse, not every 13 year old would be able to use a sniper rifle and sit in front of the safe zone waiting for people to shoot at and masturbate on it afterwards.

So why are people saying no to safe zones in this thread?

You'd basically do the same there as you do now at hot spots like airfields and supermarkets....no change in your gameplay guys, no worries ;)

So called "safezones" in apocalypse genre movies etc are not contrived places where law and order suddenly is in effect. They are part of a story line and there to show that people come together to KEEP and MAINTAIN civilization by all agreeing to cooperate. Much how law works now...law and order work because the vast majority of people AGREE to follow them.

In this game mod, for a safe zone to not be contrived, it would have to spontaneously spring up with the cooperation of groups of players, NOT be built into the game without the majority of players on a server agreeing to maintain it. That would just be dumb as described, most would not care about it and kill anyone around.

If you want a safe zone, get the majority of players on a server in a given night to get together to patrol a town or set area and provide a safe place to trade goods etc. Players who come in to cause trouble can be killed, because the MAJORITY of players would be consenting to the "rules" of the place. That is the only safezone analogy that works for this game style.

Creating artificial zones and hoping eveyrone will magically be nice around them...that belongs in WoW, or that other WarZ game, not here where things are more realistic.
