Using road flares and other items.

Recommended Posts

I'm struggling a bit with using these things. I can only manage to use them when I drop all my primary and secondary weapons and then it's just 1 item in my inventory that pops up. Is there a better way to use these items?

Road flares, chem lights, smoke grenades, and any other throwable objects can be cycled by pushing the F key. If you push the F key once as a throwable object is anywhere in your inventory, it will show that you have it out justified by the text in the upper right hand corner of your HUD.

Cheers, that'll help both me to find some stuff during night time and bandits wanting to kill me.

You can throw/drop flares.

Don't stand on top of it.

My suggestion, use the brightness and gamma setting in your video settings if you wish to play at night. In pitch black darkness the road flares light up the sky like crazy, making you an easily noticeable target for bandits from a mile away. BANDIT CONCEPTION:

*Sees flares in the distance, in the woods*

Bandit 1: Hey bud, check that out.

Bandit 2: Hah, look at the noob probably walking all alone over there, he just stopped.

Bandit 1: He's probably making a fire or somethin'.

Bandit 2: Let's get him.

*They walk up to the noob and appear friendly*

Bandit 1: We're friendly kid, don't shoot us with your Makarov.

Noob: OKAY LET'S KICK BUTT

*The two bandits shoot the noob, and take his stuff*

Noob: MOM! MOMMY-....

;_;

*The two bandits shoot into the noob after a long session of what you're imagining right now, then take his stuff*

Noob: MOM! MOMMY-.... Daddy?

;_;

Fixed.

Chemlights are your friends. They won't turn their back on you and scream out your location to every bandit in a one kilometer range.

Chemlights and road flares take up valuable space in the backpack

Initially, yes. When you're planning a nighttime raid without night-vision goggles or the luxury of a graphics card that allows you to vamp up your brightness, chemlights are the way to go.

Even with everything turned up to max it's still virtually impossible to see anything sometimes, I think there may be some difference between servers. The one I'm on now, I can only really see dark grey spots and completely black stuff and 95% of the screen is black. I was on another server though where I could see most stuff on open fields and such.

You should at least have 1 chemlight/ roadflare with you at all time, you can throw it long and distract other people around you, besides it's better than the flashlight imo

Do you have the latest beta patch when playing now? I can't seem to get my DayZ working :/ Crashes to desktop problem and I can't seem to fix it, may be the beta patch
