Alcohol in DayZ

A simple suggestion really:

Alcohol, when consumed, slightly reduces the chance of needing painkillers, at the cost of blurriness, a slight sway on the iron sights and losing blood quicker (alcohol is a blood thinner).

Excess consumption leads to increased sway > dizziness > vomiting > passing out*1 which further reduces (slightly) the chance of needing painkillers, but increases the duration of this effect*2.

*1 Perhaps you can slowly build up a tolerance to these side effects.

*2 Perhaps this is only effective against zombies, but not bullets.*3

*3 Perhaps this effect covers low calibre weapons, but to a lesser extent than zombies.

Pros:

I like to drink.

I get a fresh empty bottle to pelt at zombie's head.

I might use one less pack of painkillers.

Cons:

I'll be hammered all the time, survivors might be harder to shoot.

EDIT: as if Chernarus isn't full of grog..

They could add ganja aswell. There would be less PvP cos everyone would be in the woods around a campfire having a social toke on some fresh bud provided by the natural surroundings in Chenarus. Oh and throw in a guitar for some sing song action.

I'd find it more interesting if it actually increased your effective blood level, so a character starting out would begin at 12k blood, and then consume alcohol and have a blood level of say... 16k instead. This amount immediately begins dropping down over time, but has the additional detrimental effects you noted such as blurry vision, faster bleed out.

I'd also suggest increase the rate of needing to eat and drink.

lol Somehow this reminded me of STALKER where there are all those campfires and guitar cirlcles. Kind of a nice break momentarily from all the chaos.

Alcohol dehydrates you, so you would need like 3x more water.

Ahh woops... I've been crawling through here for ages, I thought I would have seen it :huh:

Edit: Wilks, I considered that myself, but thought it might be a bit too overpowered then? At the most though, I still want to be ripped to shreds by LMGs and anti-material snipers.

Note that little amount of alcohol should reduce, not increase, rifle sway. The reason is that alcohol relaxes muscles. (There's a long standing problem where competition shooters tend to drink before shooting, leading to alcoholism.)

Valid! Maybe this comes before the effect on pain, but is lost with more sips.

Consumption rate/drunkenness should be relative to the average real life person.

Yeah, i thought about it being used as an improvised painkiller. Maybe it also makes it so if you have recently been drinking, you have a chance to not get knocked out when you get shot with an M16 or something like that. That may be bad since it will make everyone in Chernarus piss drunk all the time ;)
