Another charatcer on a different Steam account

Recommended Posts

Hey

I just need something cleared up from you lovely lot, if I were to buy Operation Arrowhead on another Steam account, would all I have to do I login in on that Steam account with CO installed and just load up Six Launcher?

I want a solo character, I just wanna know how it would work on another Steam account on the same computer.

I wondered about this myself and ended up trying it last night. Bought Arma II OA on a 2nd account and loaded it trough steam. Then shut down the game again and loaded it trough six launcher. I spawned in on a completely new character. When I switched back to my main account, I booted the game again on steam, shut down, boot on SIx Launcher. And I was back on my old geared character.

So yes, for me that worked perfectly. Keep in mind you have to launch the game trough steam once though to change the CD-key or it wont work. :P

On one hand.. It might work, since it's a different CD Key..

On the other hand... Your registry would still have your old CD Key there. You'd probably have to export it from your registry, delete it and then run ArmA 2 from the other account, and then export the other CD key aswell and just import the one you need whenever you want to change an account.

When you launch the game trough steam it'll adjust the cd-key in your registry.

Ah. He should have no problems, then

But really, why spend another $30-40 just to have another character? Just play on non-hive servers.

Do you have to buy another copy of Combined Operations to do this? Or just OA expansion since that's what DayZ is running from?

As far as I've seen people say, you can use ArmA 2 Free, but yes, you do need ArmA 2 either way (free or full).

After all, Chernarus is an ArmA 2 map, not an Operation Arrowhead map.

OA is enough, the CD Key is saved in your registry and you can switch them for different characters.

I do that because my friend doesnt have a pc atm, so he uses mine from time to time without any problems.

That's what I was thinking. I would imagine you'd just need a second OA cd-key, and then you can backup your old registry/key folder so in case it doesn't revert back, you can just copy over the old information when you want to switch back to your older character. Disclaimer: If you don't know how to use your registry, you should not be altering it in anyway, and I take no responsibility if you read this post and mucked up your registry while trying it.

I'm going to try it out.

You only need one copy of arma 2 installed to play this way, and can just switch keys back and forth to load up different characters, which is awesome.

Yes it will work.

Im not really sure, but i think you even dont have to create another steam account (except for buying the game again somehow).

If you do buy it a second time, an easy way to switch between characters would be to export the registry key for arma 2 oa, load it up on your second steam account, and export that key. Then whenever you want to switch accounts you just load the correct reg key. It's alot quicker than having to switch steam accounts, run arma 2 oa so it switches the key, then run it through sixlauncher.
