I love the "because pvp" answer or the "I just love sniping but not, you know, unarmed people".

You're at a range where you are extremely difficult to see and you are one shouting people and thinking you are good at player versus player.

Where is the "versus"?

You don't shoot unarmed people? Right because that guy with a gun has a chance to defend himself when you shoot him in the head and instantly kill him from 600m?

Face it, leet snipers. You like killing other people's characters, and you like doing it because there is very little risk. It's cowardly

and when you go into a fire fight do you throw a few smoke grenades around to alert them to your presence or just get behind them and shoot them in the back? eveer shot a guy who only had an axe? is that cowardly too because you can drop him before he reaches you even with a makarov?

and i dont see many people with crap gear runnign around where i am (currently logged out on the northern edge of the map literally), and the furthest south ive been latley has been greeen mountain helicopter hunting

If you want to pvp, get down there and get in range and let people at least have a shot at defending themselves.

i get shot at by other snipers i have firefights intown (sometimes ppl just suprise you) last one we were having a silenced firefight at the back of the market in Krasnostav, he got the drop on me (kinda) tried somthng fancy that only 1/2 worked and gave me chance to gain the better positioning, i put 3 or 4 shots into him he clipped me with a ouple before i ducked behind a tree then after bandaging and drinking coke (wtf) he broke his leg crawling around behind a wall, i lol'ed and skipped off into the tree line

And if you play on a server with name tags on, double shame.

first point i always raise on the 'lololol look me, i r snipe' videos ppl post here, 1 guy sorry dude dont remember your name when a couple of us pointed out he was nametag ranging like a boss he said he didnt know how to range, we told him ....he actually went away and did it on a vet server and thought it was awesome

I dont care any more that sniper rifles are in game, and I don't want them removed, but I rail at some of these lame cover ups for what amounts to getting a chuckle at killing someone when they have no chance to defend themselves.

please dont tar all of us with the same brush, some of us play like dedicated marksmen (a military sniper) some of us play like designated squad support marksmen (in the the assault group to provide mid range accurate fire, and some of us play like nubs .. i mean snipers (any one firing pretty much anything rifle like from a semi concealed positin (mr lololol i snipe nubs froma roof and r suprise ppl shoot me becasue changing position is for liek ppl not awesome snipa leik meah!)

I haven't found/used a Sniper yet but I can surely say that "because it's easy and makes you feel good" pretty much :)

Well, when traveling in a big group you need someone to keep watch and assist you in looting towns. It works best with two in the town and a sniper on a hill.

I have to double check about it....

But i think DMR work with NVG.

Let me tell you all a story.

This story takes place at NWAF with a group of 5 people (including myself)

we had 4 people up at the northern barracks while i was on over watch with the highly popular DMR. I was casually scanning the runway and the southern barracks when i see Zeds suddenly spawn. immediately I warn my buddies and as i am in the process of pulling my rangefinder to determine range i spot two people running from the southern wall to the barracks. After finding out that they were at a range of 413m i aim down the second Milidot on the DMR and take a shot at the closest target. *BOOM* The shot is good and i take out one of the two with a head shot, While all of this was going on i realized that my buddies at the northern barracks had taken position on the western wall north of the barracks and had eyes on the second of the two, I was unable to continue engagement and i was forced to wait in hopes that my buddies would get him before he was able to get his head together and they do, I hear the three round Burp of the FN FAL and i see the second guy drop around a corner, dead.

I personally allways carry both an assault rifle and a Sniper, My favorite is, as usual, a DMR and my standard assault rifle is a M4A1 varient. I believe it is important for a player to be able to counter sniper anyone they come into contact with and i believe it is a good idea to have a sniper to cover your buddies as they are vulnerable.

I play as a sniper for my group and act as an overseer/ defender from high-priority targets such as other snipers and nearby players so my group is under the least pressure possible, and knows where it is coming from and when from my reports. Sniping zombies is not a good idea ammo-wise, but to take out other players is a whole other story. Whenever my group heads in to loot a high-pressure area such as an airfield or a city I always find a sniper spot and assist them from afar. Also, if the whole group dies than I can snipe the killers and defend their corpses until they can get back and get their stuff.

I would only ever use it for PvP. The only issue with the sniper rifle in most games is that it's too easy, and in this case too easy/too easy to obtain. Thats what attracts all the little kids. They should be rare and should be used by a skilled person for high value targets. Situations like if you're overseeing your teams raid on a town and see someone coming up behind them notify your team or pop on off directly in his back.

Allowing people to easily post up on a hill and light people up is just absurd and boring.

EDIT: St00f pretty much is the kind of sniper that should be prevalent. Unfortunately it's usually a bunch of kids stroking their Epeen. Oh shit I killed someone from all the way over here! Oh what did you have to do? Click on him? Holy shit you're hardcore.

I use a sniper rifle for the same reason I throw rocks at squirrles. The squirrles tend to bitch less though.

I LOVE IT. Especially when you've got the rangefinder, you go on a veteran server with no built in rangefinder, use your Binoculars to see someone, then grab yo sniper and pop that ass! Feels great. Doing this has given me and my team insane equipment. I'm the designated sniper, i shoot em, my buddy loots em. And we've got another backup sniper that lies about 300 meters from me concealed, protecting me if someone sneaks up behind me, and if he should get killed i'll know and i'll guard his body.

So nice.
