Helicopter tips and gltiches to watch out for!

I have been on extensive chopper hunts and have fixed up no less than 7 now. I have 2 actives currently on different servers. I have encountered every bug you possibly can with choppers and learn more each day. So here is a list of what I have learned so far, so that maybe you can avoid the frustration and hours of lost scavenging for parts that I have gone through.

- Hard save your chopper like you have OCD. Whenever you are not in the air, hard save it. Every time you fix a part of it, hard save. Hard save if you sneeze on it.

- If your chopper disappears after a server crash, you may have to wait until a hard reboot. Eventually it WILL reappear. This is finicky though. I had a chopper on one server run out of fuel and explode with me inside of it. The next server restart it was in the hard save point fully repaired and waiting for me. Once the server crashed mid flight. I have yet to see that chopper again... it is lost in the ether.

- DO NOT SIT IN THE CHOPPER LONGER THAN YOU HAVE TO IF YOU ARE NOT PLANNING TO FLY! Check the parts status and the fuel if you have to and then GET OUT! If you are disconnected from the server while in the pilot seat, you will be ejected as if a person is already sitting in it once back in. In fact NO ONE will be able to sit in the pilot seat.

- Fuck the dev that decided to spawn a chopper inside of the NE airbase hanger. No but seriously I love the devs *grumble*.

- The chopper hull will ALWAYS show green even if it is damaged. Check that your hull is green in the repair list by having a scrap metal in your inventory. This may be the reason people have fuel leaks and do not know why.

- If you want your chopper to go back to the last hard reset point in case of server crash while flying, do not leave the pilot seat at all. Picking up and dropping off passengers is fine.

This is all I can think of right now. More news as it happens. I shall continue to tinker with choppers and flasks and beakers and green bubbling liquids. This is Africanized Bees (damn forum wouldn't let me have the longer version of my name) experiencing all of the chopper woes so you don't have to. Enjoy your strafing runs!

You are a gentlemen and a scholar. I don't suppose you would share where helicopters are likely to be found? I'm led to believe that there are 'hot spots' of a sort.

There are, but I am not willing to give this info freely. I want to study the mechanics, and honestly I have found the spots organically, which is half the fun. Wander off the beaten path sometime.

- Dont fly helis on [Legion] servers as they will restart the server/kick you and your crew.

Got kicked, script restriction #12 while flying. I didn't crash, but they saw me get kicked, and then the chopper crashed due to not having a pilot.

I've been having an issue on my server where after a restart the huey will have lost all the maintenance done to it. Further, I've been unable to repair the Hull beyond orange/red. It just doesn't improve, I've exhausted 7 Scrap metal to it to no avail.

The remainder of components are good to go, ATRQ, MROT, INST, but the hull is still red/orange. It also won't hold any fuel. Any assistance would be appreciated, its been the bane of my existence for the better part of a month, this issue has been ongoing since the new update.

i hope devs eventually get rid of all this elitist/clan bullshit that you practice on you servers.

choppers should belong to army or everyone and there should not be biased server that kick none-clan memmbers for flying them. this type of biased elitism only ruins this mod.

devs should change gameplay somehow so everyone has its fair chance not just 30 clan members coordinating over voip and getting control of all loot, weapons, technology, choppers, etc.

i think militia clans like that should receive hordes of hundreds of zombies constantly to even up gameplay.

TOCMaster and unsobill, this is not a flame thread. I had nothing to do with your incident TOC, and Unso I found and repaired all of these choppers on various servers by myself. get back on topic and post any glitches you may have run into or do not post.

Organized groups would have the best gear and survival rate during a real zombie apocalypse so that statement is ridiculous. If you can't beat them, join them.

We lost our Heli after the server crashed. It never returned back to the start point no matter how many times the server restarted.

Then some random noob found it sitting in a field we landed in before the crash.

Pro tip: If you loose your heli check everywhere it landed before the crash!

Put fuel in it and nothing. Hours of work and 2 seriously planned out missions to extract it wasted. I swear to god if I find a AT4 I am going to shoot it right into the side of that damn thing and let it die for good.

Let me guess, you tried to repair a "Crashed Helicopter" the grey one with bent rotorblades.

You can't repair or fly those, they are loot spawners.

You are looking for green Heuys that don't look all f*cked up.

Did you fix the rotor? With one of those HUMONGOUS rotor assembly things?

With the engine fixed it should take off, not sure maybe it was bugged.

Did you try going back to it after a server restart?

We just lost one of our choppers. It decided to randomly to ditch itself into a mountain side upside down.

How many scrap metals does it take to repair the hull of a chopper? We used about 7 and still didn't stop the fuel leaks.

One glitch I've had over helicopters, is...

Me and my Chernarus partner were out looking around and found a random helicopter. Fixed it up and flew it back to camp after gassing up in Cherno as fast as possible. We both logged out. The server restarted over night, forcing the heli to respawn in place. We check it again in the morning to find it completly out of fuel, all of the indicators on orange, and IT WILL NOT LET US FIX ANYTHING EXCEPT THE GLASS!!! Everything worked... just we'd put in gass and it would leak out all of it we could put in it almost as fast as we could gas it up, and that we couldn't fix either! We repaired the glass in hopes that it might let us fix everything else, but none the less it doesn't. We have all of the parts to fix the bird and more, but it LITERALLY won't let us fix it. We're hoping it respawns in better condition, or at least in a fixable state next time

Also Servers may have different settings + a lot of things have changed since May of 2012.
