Day Z crashes computer

Recommended Posts

After about 10-15 minutes of playing DayZ, my computer crashes entirely and I need to shut it off using the power button. I cannot minimize or do anything else during this. Sometimes particles will be messed up and the game will have weird colors over the screen, while other times it doesn't. Also, whatever sound is occuring it will keep looping and it sounds terrifying and annoying at the same time during the freeze.

At first I thought it was my computer overheating. I installed a computer temperature monitor and was watching my temps and they did get pretty high, about 80-90 celcius and then it crashed, so I went out and bought compressed air and sprayed all of my fans and everything in my computer. A shit ton of dust came out so I was happy thinking I fixed the problem. I then played again, though the temp now stayed between 40-50. Unfortunately I still crashed. I really don't know what the problem could be. This is the second game that this has ever happened to me, the other one being APB. I can play GTA IV with no problem for how long I want and this won't happen.

I did touch my graphics card afterwards and it did feel hot, but not too hot.

I have a Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT

Asus P5KPL-CM motherboard

4 GB of Ram

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I run a HP G72-B53Nr Notebook with dayz and have no issues with game! I do lag some over a period of about 5 mins of running i lose sight of my group as they leave me behind but other than that it does fine. Have you adjusted the video settings any? I know your running a much better video card than my built in one but you may still have some adjustments that need be made. I have everything disabled and run lowest quality.

Yea I am running everything on high. I am going to try to run it on the lowest quality settings and see what happens.

same graphics card as mine..... I've actually had tubs of ice cream on my pc, just for DayZ. It is an insanely resource intensive game, but the extremely short period of time you can play suggests something more serious.

here's a guide on optimizing DayZ http://pastebin.com/F7Q8Ne2i, may help

Tubs of ice cream? Wat.

And what does it suggest? My graphics card dying maybe? I don't think it is though because I played Diablo III for hours upon hours on max settings with no problem. Its just for certain games this happens.

Okay so I decided to play regular Arma II. I crashed and recieved a blue screen saying something that is called nvlddmkm.dll is causing the comp to crash.

I have a program called WhoCrashed? and I ran it and it said that

"file path: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys

Product: Nvidia Windows Kernel Mode Driver Version 301.42

Its in the middle of Minimum and Reccomended. I know it can run this game, it just crashes randomly. I've played games such as GTA IV maxed out and others with no problem.

Im gunna look at the troubleshooting topic you posted and see if that'll work because I did see a topic that addresses Nvidia users. Thanks.

I have this problem as well... I recently bought a brand new computer specifically to play this game and a few others on at least high settings. And I seem to run into the same problem TehBrandon is having. I play on fullscreen for about 20-30 minutes sometimes longer depending whether my system has just been turned on or has been running for a while. And after a certain amount of time the game will freeze and sound will continue playing in the back for a few seconds. Now during this happening I cannot press Ctrl+Alt+Del or anything and doing so usually makes the computer freeze completely. So I am then forced to hard reset my computer. The only fix I have found for this problem is playing the game in "Windowed mode" which is not a big problem but would be nice if I can play in fullscreen. And I know it is not a heating problem of my computer or anything as I specifically bought a Corsair H100 water CPU cooler for this type of thing. The rest of my specifications are.

CPU: AMD FX-6100 (Stock clock & H100 CPU cooler)

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3

Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 7770 XFX (2 in CrossFireX)

PSU: 750W Non-modular (unknown brand)

RAM: 12GB Corsair vengance 1600MHz

Please it would be much appreciated if I can get any help for this situation. I think my PC is more than capable of handling this game as I play BF3 on Ultra settings without any problem for hours and do not suffer the same issue.
