Rakkasan 23 Posted May 20, 2012 Get rid of it. It takes away from the simulation in the way that everyone uses it to "tattle" or just communicate their every move to the whole server. The realism is taken away when you hear "Friendly?" in Cherno? Or "Bandits at Electro" when you are at the airfield, miles away. One should not know what is going on and who is doing it at all times. Sure it is nice to know who is a bandit or who is friendly, but it should be the person finding out when they are face to face, or on the receiving end of a sniper scope. Maybe implement a general chat that is local only, that is if you are not near anyone they cannot hear you talk when you type.
Legacy (DayZ) 1091 Posted May 20, 2012 If you ever paid attention to some of the interviews, you would know that they're already working on removing it when Direct Comm gets fixed. (Which is general chat :V Read before posting.)
dallas 5195 Posted May 20, 2012 I kind of like it, when I'm playing solo, it's kind of nice to blow off some steam or answer questions from new players.
WhipDiddyWhip 0 Posted May 20, 2012 agreedhopefully voip will work properly in the future and be restricted to local channel only (voip and chat)
Rakkasan 23 Posted May 20, 2012 What I have read is the fixing of the direct communication VOIP nothing being said about removing the chat channels which communicate with the whole server, why dont you grace me with your highness powers and put a link here. redundant 1 Posted May 20, 2012 Yea before anyone even thinks about removing the general (blue chat) Direction chat needs to work.
Katana67 2907 Posted May 20, 2012 Yep, they've stated that it's getting removed in the future once Direct is fixed. I'll have a look around for the exact interview, I want to say PC Gamer though. Try a search.
Legacy (DayZ) 1091 Posted May 20, 2012 Mind me and my behavior.Through one of the interviews (Game informer? Kotaku? I forget) Rocket stated himself that he wants that to be a big priority once Direct comm is patched.Someone else can find it?
Rakkasan 23 Posted May 20, 2012 Thanks all, that would be cool once that is fixed. As for help or in game questions, maybe a special channel could be implemented.
Legacy (DayZ) 1091 Posted May 20, 2012 Perhaps, sort of like a one way system for users but global for admins?Ex: User 1 goes into HELP Channel and asks for help on blah issueAdmin 1 globally chats into HELP Channel: @User 1 Do this: Blah blah blah
Katana67 2907 Posted May 20, 2012 I'm really looking forward to having the chat gone, I'm actually pretty indifferent to the VON, as it can be muted. But having a wall of chat and modlists when everyone logs in totally ruins the experience for me sometimes. I think it should be a server setting as well. I don't really like playing on Hardcore servers, because I quite enjoy third-person... but everything else I think should go, like global chat, debug monitor, etc (being a toggleable server option). (Yeah, I get that it's Alpha and a debug monitor is necessary. I do think it should be relegated to the server control window, and not the main HUD. The information is really too static for it to be necessary on the HUD.
