I know I heard Rocket say that he was looking into creating Instances for player bases and such. Does anyone know the capabilities for Arma 2 for Instances?

I love the PVP world of Dayz and the struggle it is to get gear but I see a lot of people saying that once they get geared up there isn't really much to do with it except go hunt other players. I have also heard that some people would like some sort of "End Game" especially if this becomes a stand alone game.

I think instanced zombie encounters could be amazing, solo or group settings and would allow the programmers to get the load off the main server and really do some amazing things with the zombies or whatever scenario the devs want to invent. Would also give groups working together a goal and the ability to add unique loot.

Before the COD kiddies say "go back to wow" I am thinking more of the encounters you would run into in Eve Online. In Eve someone could sneak into your instance and ruin your day... so totally inline with Dayz.

I think some instanced areas would be cool. An underground military base for example.

Instances, as discussed on another topic would turn the game into a crappy all the same mmo, also we have enough time spent on the loading screen to get it, so if they add instances there would be more and get very boring, the idea of a Open World Game means u dont need to load to go anywhere so i disagree.

DayZ is a sandbox type game for a reason. If you want MMO go play Runescape or something.

Great Answer, You Deserve my Beans :D

I am not saying turn this into WOW MMO instancing and I am sure rocket did not intend that either in his comments. Maybe you have not played Eve Online or understand what you can do with instancing since you might only be familiar with WOW or some other run of the mill MMO. You can have instancing and still have a sandbox game. The instancing allows you to take load work off the server and do more things. All you negative nancy's out there need to think more about the possibilities rather than what you have seen done before in whatever game you played last week...lol

I Play EVE Online, i like it how it is, but if you start putting instances into this game, it would ruin it, judging by the first loading screen if we have instances there would be many more to come, just keep it OPEN WORLD! :D

I think there has been a misunderstanding here. The idea was to 'instance' underground bases or areas to add more and somewhat hidden areas to the map for base building etc

The idea was NOT to have missions to farm or Bosses to spam LFG for.

Either way having instances would ruin the flowing gameplay if it has more loading screens cant people understand that :|

It could be as unassuming as a very short climb down a ladder, I don't think you understand the technical limitations the dev team are working against to nurture this 'open world'.

You can have seemless instancing in games and not have loading screens. Quit thinking of WOW.

oh i get you, so the code would say:

When Player Walks Into certain Area it Instantly Teleports them to the map but gives the illusion they are in the same area :D I Get You Now :)

The Arma2 engine was never designed to allow instancing afaik, its a pretty old game.

I don't agree with instances but i do agree with randomly spawning underground bunkers (if at all possible)

More incentive to explore, risky to go into because of zombies and only one way out. Standard military gear drops would already do the trick.

This idea shouldnt be put in with the current ability to server hop at will and people disconnecting or ghosting at a whim. Not to mention the current zombie state with them wall clipping and phase shifting in confined spaces. Also firing a gun in an enclosed space like a bunker, zombie dinner anyone? Better find a silence weapon before going down.

From what I've read, the Arma 2 engine isn't capable of anything.

*breaks legs trying to climb through door while zombies hit through walls*

I read in a Rocket interview that he wants to work with Bohemia and use the Arma engine in his standalone game.

Oh dear, the engine isnt that bad tbh its how the programmers use it, i mean like yea its an old game but the graphics are sound, and i suppose its thinking very big at this time working with Bohemia which is a multi million Dollar Company so cant wait to join the fun ;D

I would think instancing would be possible if Rocket said they were looking into it for underground bases.. Does anyone know what the possiblities are that have some gaming programming background?
