spacingtonflioniv 2 Posted May 20, 2012 Flagging unfriendlies (bandit skin) appears not to have worked for one reason or another, so maybe the inverse could be tried. Allow players to flag other players client-side as friendlies. Maybe with an armband that glows faintly (without throwing light the way a light source would) only for you when you're within x meters of that flagged "friend".This doesn't remove the initial uncertainty of a run-in with another survivor. This doesn't remove the possibility of accidentally killing a friend/ally at night or at a distance. It just adds a tool for peaceful survivors to stand a better chance in a way that accounts for the lack of realism of not being able to distinguish one person from another outside of skin color. bobda 11 Posted May 20, 2012 Next patch is supposed to introduce new lootable skins, making identifying friends much easier.
proxzor 3 Posted May 20, 2012 I like the idea of marking someone as an ally, but somehow I also want it to be realistic as possible and thus don't want it... I like the idea though.
spacingtonflioniv 2 Posted May 20, 2012 Next patch is supposed to introduce new lootable skins' date=' making identifying friends much easier.[/quote']That remains to be seen. Unless there are many different, commonly lootable skins, I have a feeling you're going to continue to run into the same three or four skins over and over.I like the idea of marking someone as an ally' date=' but somehow I also want it to be realistic as possible and thus don't want it... I like the idea though.[/quote']Well, realistically, people have different body proportions and can speak to you with a distinctive voice that you recognize. I know my best friend's silhouette in the dark thirty feet away, and he can respond to me with his voice instantaneously if I feel unsure. Neither of those exist in Day Z, so I feel this is a simple, elegant solution to that problem.
Synchronicity 2 Posted May 20, 2012 Well' date=' realistically, people have different body proportions and can speak to you with a distinctive voice that you recognize. Realism is good and well, but exceptions must be made for the limitations of the medium. Humans don't have the ability to sense how much blood is in their body, but we can in Day Z because the sensation of weakness that comes with blood loss cannot be conveyed through a computer screen.I think having lootable skins will be sufficient for the most part, but I wouldn't object to something like an armband. To make sense, it should be about as easily identifiable as someone's face, since that is how one would identify a person if this were real life.
Sarissofoi 40 Posted May 20, 2012 Actually if any player have difrent armband(or chossable from many on start) so you can identify him from short distance by this.Like for 50 people server you have 50 armbands to choose. They just be a part of some uniforms. fullmetalmonkey 0 Posted May 21, 2012 I think when the lootable skins get added (it won't be in the next patch) people will make allies with other players and should hopefully after sometime be able to tell who is who at a distance from their skin alone. Hell, theres nothing to stop them from saying: 'I'm the dude in the tuxedo carry a red rose', so that the other party knows that person is friendly. If the person picks up a skin which look like hes unfriendly, its most likely because that person is. For example, there will be a reason why someone picks a military outfit over shorts and flip-flops.I don't object to being able to find armbands ingame which are equipable but it still won't make a huge difference as non-friendlies will just start to wear them also and you will be square one all over again. Land Squid 22 Posted May 21, 2012 I like the idea for the armbands. Could have several uses, from designating a clan, to who's the medic or the team leader on an expedition, etc.
NecessaryEvil 3 Posted May 21, 2012 +1there definitely needs to be a way to quickly distinguish who is a part of your group w/o joining those stupid servers that show name tags from miles away.
