Put the 'player disconnected' message back in game

Recommended Posts

With people disconnecting in most fights, we really need a message that says 'xx has disconnected'.

It detracts nothing from the immersion and lets us know when cowards/exploiters have A. pussied out B. are trying to server hop to flank us.

If I remember correctly I believe it is in game, it is just disabled by default while, server admins can enable it.

Think of the spam though, when someone dies, and they disconnect to respawn?

No, this would detract from the anonymity of the game. Making being a bandit harder.

Yeah, because if someone knows your name it's wayyyy harder to kill them with your winchestor, right?

We got an alt+f4 pirate here, who doesn't want the game to name and shame him.

Actually no, I'm a hardcore bandit. Sometimes I let people go, sometimes I let them run around with me for awhile, sometimes I kill them. I never alt-f4. If I die, i just run back find a cheap gun, and hunt someone until i get a better gun and continue my banditry. Just because someone is a bandit, doesn't mean they are an alt-f4er, infact, I find most of the people who ALT-f4, are survivors too afraid to lose their gear.

I don't see how disconnect messages would effect bandits at all, Unless they are disconnecting to aviod death.

Yes I agree, but how are you proposing this system would negatively effect being a bandit?

No one even takes notice of names, it'd just be nice to see when people pussy out.

That will fix nothing, the problem lies in persistent servers. Get rid of persistent locations across servers, get rid of server hopping, farming, pvp, alt-f4.

Whats the fear in disconnecting and joining a difference server? none, why fight when you can just run. Make it so they can run, but punish them for running by putting them back at the coast. That would get rid of a majority of the problems, or at least give servers the option to enable this feature.

The whole preserving anonymity thing is BS.

IRL you'd be able to recognize faces, and if you disconnect enough, you should gain notoriety for doing so. Same with banditry in my opinion.

How would you recognize a face if you are dead? Anyways, supposedly rocket is adding study corpse to the game to show who the player was killed by if you don't hide the corpse.

If rocket considers combat logging an exploit, i think being able to see who disconnects would help in the naming, shaming, and (after some violations), banning.

Too much overhead, there just needs to be a better system for disconnecting, that keeps your body around and still saves to the hive. He tried this once but it was causing duping.

Fix one problem, create another.

I agree with OP. It will allow me to copy down their name and wreak havoc upon that player in the future.

Witnesses. Or even seeing them before they die should be acceptable. You'll respawn, and so will the bandit after someone kills him. The whole anonymity thing really lets people let loose without worries. No one will know of their crime so they can really do whatever they want without fear of retribution.

Also it makes teamwork difficult as it's hard to recognize each other.

Has been a feature the entire time I have been playing, it only has worked correctly since 1.7.1 if I am not mistaken. Which does nothing to help when a player DC's since their body disappears.

I don't see how it would help if you can't see the name of the person shooting at you.

Edit: most servers I play on have names/scroll to find range disabled.
