It tells you when you spawn in; on the lower right corner it says Chernarus, your location, days alive. I hope this helps.

Go to the nearest town and look at road sign, try and match road sign to map ( http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/images/1/18/Map_Chernarus.jpg) If you just spawned you will be next to sea
